 Rating:  - Animé Batman... here we go.I can't comment on the DVD itself, as I don't own it (nor do I plan to), but I did see the film at Fan Expo '08, and was sorely disappointed. First, it's not really a film. As the Product Description review says, it's an anthology. (IE: six short stories that have only the slimmest of threads running through them.) Like SinCity, but without the cool visuals. It feels like an animated series that never quite took off. Speaking of animation, Batman: Gotham Knight is done - for the most part - in what feels like an extremely Japanese-style anime. I know some will say all anime is Japanese, but ten seconds of watching the film and you'll know what I mean. Think 'Witch Hunter Robin' or 'Ghost in the Shell'. The style ... Personally I liked these stories even better than the recent batman movies. Rating: - Very GoodTo be frank I only liked the second half of the film. The first half constists of nothing but the view of Batman through the eyes of various civilians, and Batman beating up goons. The second half or the last two stories are far more enjoyable. Working Through Pain was written by one of my favourite comic book writers Brian Azarello (100 Bullets), and he did a good job in annunciating that Bruce really doesn't want to work through the pain of his parents death. He wants to hold on to that pain because it gives him purpose and it drives him. And really if he were to give up that pain--he probably would find his life devoid and meaningless and purposeless.
