. Sex God
by: Rob Bell
April 01, 2007
Rob Bells second outing as an author explores the endless connections between sexuality and spirituality (from the subtitle). Im not so sure about the design of the book (I liked his simple MAC-like attempt for his first book - Velvet Elvis), but the content is Vintage Bell - just love it.
Since I regularly listen to Robs sermons, I was familiar with many of his ideas. Its always interesting to see how the spoken word gets translated (and perhaps altered/refined?) into the written word. Makes me wonder how the oral tradition of the Christian faith became the written word of the Bible.
I love Robs humility - he would frequently say that the sermon (or in this case, the book) is the beginning of the conversation. ... Read More:

. Velvet Elvis: Repainting the Christian Faith
by: Rob Bell
June 29, 2006
Velvet Elvis Review
(Bell, Rob: Velvet Elvis, Zondervan, 2005. 194 Pages)
As a young adult, born and raised in the modern age, I instinctively understand that while God never changes, culture and time do. I've always wanted to explore and wrestle with my faith but felt like I wasn't allowed because the church always had the final word and that to question that was to question my `salvation'.
Rob Bell is all about questions. In his book Velvet Elvis he asks all the questions I've ever had but have never been able to articulate or ask myself. Just like Rob's painting of the Velvet Elvis is not the final or best picture of Elvis, so to is today's portrait of the church not the final rendition. It will keep changing and ... Read More:

. Money Management For Canadians All-in-One Desk Reference For Dummies
by: Andrew Bell, et al.
November 15, 2003
Mainly interested in the investing advice, I haven't even yet made full use of this very valuable financial advice book. The book is compiled from various individual titles, written by authors who specialize in areas like home-buying, stock buying etc. The authors have a fairly similar style, with the "Dummies" editors helping to add a light-hearted and humorous tone to each of the books. And the advice is great. The authors are quite successful at simplying a lot of the things that seem quite difficult to a lay reader. For example, if you're buying a mutual fund, the author explains the difference between equity and bond funds, and why you might want one of each, and why you should REFUSE to allow management expense fees to eat into ... . Essentials of General Surgery
by: Lawrence
July 01, 2005
This book is just the right length for an aspiring surgeon to read during their surgery clerkship. If surgery isn't your bag then it's probably a bit much but is excellent as a reference for your patient's surgical issues. When compared against many of the larger texts such as Sabiston it doesn't seem to be missing much of the important information that I needed to write review papers or add to informal presentations. But it is much cheaper and less bulky, and thus ideal for medical students. I used this book along with the "Essentials of Surgical Specialties" volume.

. Nick Of Time: An Adventure Through Time
by: Ted Bell
May 13, 2008
From its striking dust cover art to its beautiful binding and print, this middle-grade adventure story has it all: boats and the sea, pirates, castles, Nazis, and time travel. It has everything a young reader could want. The writing is crisp, clear, and practically flawless. Description and scene setting put the reader in the middle of things where he or she is immediately drawn into the adventure with the leading characters, Nick and Kate. As the story progresses, more and more actors are sprinkled in until a full host are moving the story faster and faster forward toward a roaring climax. Action never stops in the great novel which rivals Robert Lewis Stevenson's Treasure Island in size and scope. The author covers this book's sometimes rapid ... Read More:
