Hanne Blank was a new author to me and I will seek out more of her writing based on this experience. Each of the stories has an thoughtful and exciting slant that draws you in and keeps you reading until the end. When you have finished this book you will be in a funk and it will take a bit of grieving before you move on to the next, erotic or otherwise. This title compares well with Carries Story and with Master which was another one of my favorites. I would share this with anyone who was new to erotica and high standards for the writing they would tolerate.

I came to this book with few expectations, partly because it is the first of its kind. What transgendered erotica exists is either somewhat rare and scattered around or exploitative and not very believable to those who actually are transgendered or know those who are. After reading the anthology, I realize that I could have come to it with many expectations and it still would have pleasantly surprised me.

The twenty-three stories in this collection are as diverse as transpeople themselves. We see all varieties of trangender manifestations from the real to the surreal. If you just want something quick, cheap, and tawdry, this probably is the wrong book for you. This is much, much better than that. These are visceral, emotional, introspective, and above all literary stories about the range of ways that sex has a part to play in women's lives, encompassing revenge, nostalgia, suffering, romance, and lots of lustiness in the scenarios. I got the feeling that these stories were selected with an eye toward what was erotic in our everyday lives and a range of realistic-feeling experiences, not as escapist fantasy, and I really love that. The book is fiction, but I keep wondering how many of the stories might be a little autobiographical, because some of them ring really true to me.

and for those who love larger people. This book is cutting edge and I'm certain will cause a stir from people who preach that "thin is the only sexy" but guess what, most people don't look like models or movie stars so this is really a book for the majority of Americans. There are six chapter which cover everything from personal identity issues, dating, community groups, health, and sexual suggestions for a more fulfilling intimate life. I have two complaints about this book (thus the 4 stars instead of 5): facts without citation (yup, I know she did a survey but still there are facts tossed about that need evidence) and a jumping around between "fat people" and "fat admirers" that can make things a bit confusing.
