. RV Vacations For Dummies
by: Harry Basch, Shirley Slater
May 02, 2008
I was initially struck by the early sections, which so clearly laid out all the elements of preparing for an RV vacation, including renting or buying, eating and sleeping on the road, and everything from cell phones to the pros and cons of carrying a gun. The remainder of the book has 14 trips around all parts of the US from New England to Florida, Route 66 to California, and the Northwest. Very handy are details of attractions and campgrounds, which are laid out simply and enjoyable to read. Each trip has a detailed map showing the locations of campgrounds and things to don't want to miss. Anyone who's thinking about RVing will want to get this book.

. Fielding's Freewheelin' USA: Everything You Need to Plan Your Next Open Road Adventure
by: Shirley Slater, Harry Basch
1995-08
Author of DISCOVER AMERICA DIARIES: 50 STATES, 50 STATES OF MIND This is a fun, easy-to-read book that covers just about everything--from RV personality tests (we discovered we're "Garbo Gourmets") to one-pot dinner recipes--all in a tidy compact paperback. The book begins with a chapter on the history of RVing, aka, "The Tin Can Tourists,'" followed by chapters on the ABCs of RVs, as well as the pro's and cons of renting versus buying. The book also details RV lifestyles, campground pitfalls, the nuts and bolts of RV maintenance, a glossary of terms, and several suggested road trips. I liked the authors' self-deprecating tone and humorous asides. It's easy to see they learned things the hard way, ... Read More:

. Frommer's California 2005
by: Frommers, Harry Basch, Erika Lenkert
November 19, 2004
This is a massive 700 page guide suitable to the large State of California, a state that has many places to explore and visit. It has a comprehensive description of almost every area of California and has excellent maps and guides including street maps of San Francisco. You will not be disappointed with this book as a guide. You will be disappointed with a lack of photographs. A picture is worth a 1000 words and this book has virtually none. So if you are buying just one book, then buy Eyewitness Travel Guides DK - California which is almost as big - 630 pages but has stunning photos. If you are buying more than one book, consider this Frommer guide.
