. Singapore Handbook
by: Joshua Eliot
1999-06
Great history and background. A little critical of the so-called Singapore Miracle -- but that is not a stance without merit. (After all, it's the most successful totalitarian state on the planet!) Note that this second edition was written in 2000, and is missing some important details (like the fact that there is a Chinatown stop on the MRT these days; or the fact that the Chinese Heritage museum has been completely re-done as a multimedia experience akin to the Asian Civilizations Museum -- and while a little hokey is quite effective at communicating the history of the Chinese experience in Singapore; etc.) Definitely more meat to this guidebook than most.

. Thailand Handbook
by: Joshua Eliot, Jane Bickersteth
1997-05
Overall, I'm very pleased with Footprint Guides, and this one has the usual excellent set of information & opinions. But,I was disappointed in the amount of stale information in this book. It's just been published, but half the restaurants we selected from it turned out to be out of business. I know restaurants come and go, but some of these had been out of business for years. Maybe we just had bad luck, but there was enough out-of-date info that I'm wondering if they cut some corners to get a new edition out so everyone (like me) would discard their previous edition and run out to get this one.

. Cambodia Handbook
by: John Colet, Joshua Eliot
1997-03
Compared to the excellent Lonely Planet guide and even the rough guide, the Footprint book on Cambodia leaves much to be desired... it is full of errors of history and fact, and even gives wrong coordinates on its maps, especially its important map of Phnom Penh. If you buy one guidebook to Cambodia, let it be Lonely Planet, not this very disappointing Footprint guide, no matter how pretty the pictures are. D.G. Longmuir former Canadian Ambassador to Cambodia
