. Along the Inca Road: A Woman's Journey into an Ancient Empire
by: Karin Muller
September 01, 2000
The strange thing about this book is that theoretically everything's fine about it - looking for and at the remains of a fascinating culture, the author taking part in the local rituals and daily life, writing of acceptable quality. It should be grand - and still I don't like it for some reason. What made this book quite tiresome was Karin Muller's lack of a sense of humor. It is my firm belief that it is very hard to write a breathtaking book about a difficult journey without being able to see the funny side of different situations. Perhaps that was why I can't say I like the author as a person - and since this book is based on her personal experiences, that itself takes away from the fun of reading this book. Also - as another ... Read More:

. Hitchhiking Vietnam
by: Karin Muller
1998-04
I am not sure what it was, but after finishing this book I have a bad taste in my mouth. I applaud the intentions of the author and the subject matter is irresistibly interesting. However, it was hard for me to get into at first because the book kind of rambles and it takes a while to get into her style. The style ended up suiting the journey very well as it was a slow and haphazard journey through the various aspects of Vietnam. Karin suffered many difficulties on her travels and I got very frustrated for her. She made it seem so difficult to travel around Vietnam (and she speaks Vietnamese!) that I am not sure that I want to go anymore. She experienced horrible guides that only wanted to squeeze as much money out of her as possible and a motorcycle ... Read More:

. Japanland: A Year in Seach of Wa
by: Karin Muller
October 31, 2006
Karin Muller set off to explore and immerse herself in Japanese culture. Having a black belt in Judo, she lived with a host family who's head of household taught Judo. She practiced judo with him and how to be a Japanese housewife with his perfectionist wife, Yukiko. While Karin failed at cooking and took brutal wallopings while practicing Judo, she succeeds at finding out about Japan's culture and people.
Karin Muller brings the people, place and culture of Japan to life. I felt as if I was there with her, sharing her funny, laugh out loud moments, frustration, and awe.
