.Frommer's Australia from $50 a Day, 12th Edition by: Marc Llewellyn, Natalie Kruger, Lee Mylne 2002-03 I actually bought 4 different guide books to plan my trip Down Under. I ditched 3 of them almost immediately because Frommer's format was easier to read and locating appropriate information quicker. The advice on suggested tours was especially accurate; the boxed information warrants a second (or third) look - Frommer's never steered us in the wrong direction. Take the price information with a grain of salt as seasoned travelers know that pricing can and will fluctuate. Don't buy any other guides - relax and enjoy your trip. .Frommer's® Australia, 8th Edition by: Natalie Kruger, Marc Llewellyn, Lee Mylne January 01, 2002 I went to Melbourne and Sydney and the book turned out to be pretty skimpy. I flipped through the Fodor's book when I got home and wished I had bought that one instead. I found the Frommer's book to be very light on things to do and good places to eat for the 2 cities I visited. There isn't even a mention of Olympic Park in Sydney and only a handful of restuarants are mentioned. If you are only buying one book I would recommend checking out the Fodor's instead. I flipped through the Fodor's book when I got home and wished I had bought that one instead. I found the Frommer's book to be very light on things to do and good places to eat for the 2 cities I visited. .Frommer's Australia 2005 by: Marc Llewellyn, Lee Mylne 2004-10 Two quick points on Australia and travel books. The first is that Australia is a large and varied country. It is impossible to find one book that does the job, just impossible. Lets look at Melbourne as an example. Here is an old city (for Australia) with lots to see and do but in most guides it get 30 pages or so. Same with Sydney. So to do a serious job or get all the information you need - buy at least two or three books, i.e.: a general book and a book about the local area such as Sydney or the Outback. By the way I love Bill Bryson's "Down Under" and strongly recommend this book. It is a diary trip through Australia with many comments, insights, and humor.
