. The Adirondack Book: A Complete Guide
by: Elizabeth Folwell, Neal S. Burdick
1992-11
Having spent much time in the Adirondacks, and with a child at school in Saratoga Springs, I was extermely disappointed with the scope of information in this "complete guide". While the historical, geographical and quasi-scientific narrative that Ms. Folwell has compiled is interesting, the information that a traveler/vacationer/tourist (especially one who's new to the area) would need is sorely lacking. The meager information that is available is unusually skewed toward what seems to be the author's limited personal taste in facilities, activities and likes. Apparently, Ms. Folwell does not like hotels or resorts, since most of them (and there are several in the Adirondacks) were glaringly missing from this book. Also ... Read More:

. A Bushwhacker's View of the Adirondacks
by: John E. Winkler, Neal S. Burdick
1995-06
Winkler has done what so many other Adirondack High-Peak enthusiasts want to do - and then some. Not only has he climbed and documented dozens of unmarked highpeaks, but he has supplemented them with gorgeous and uniquely viewed photographs. These give a completely new perspective for any Adirondack hiker and is written with a practical approach. If you want a 'jump-start' on taking on some of these 'tougher' climbs, read some of Winklers stories and get going. Be one of those few that reach these remote peaks and discover the magical seclusion that Winkler shares. Great reading year round!
