.Rick Steves' Paris by: Rick Steves October 10, 2007 I'd just like to make a comment and correct some assumptions made by other reviewers. His statement about America bringing "peace, prosperity, and democracy" to Iraq under the "benevolent" guidance of Bush is sarcastic. If you look on his webpage, you will see several political essays by Rick Steves, and find out that he is very much against the war in Iraq, and also very much a liberal. That being said, I did not really notice any overly-liberal comments in the book. That was the only political comment I read, in fact - and I was just as shocked as previous readers until I decided to do some Google searching on Steves's political opinions. The book is promoted as a guidebook to the whole country. Surprise! It only covers selected tourist centers, and concentrates on the big cities. Most of the towns of southern Italy aren't mentioned. For example, in the "Taxi" section, you can quickly find out how to tell the driver, "If you don't slow down, I will vomit!" There is just enough humor to keep you smiling without wasting your time, and succintly hepful comments throughout. .Spain & Portugal Planning Map: Including Barcelona, Madrid & Lisbon City Maps by: Rick Steves January 25, 2007 Some thoughts about Mr. Steves' largely excellent book. Highly recommended. Pros: * Mr. Steves provides excellent help in prioritizing your time in Spain and Portugal. I find this activity to be the hardest when planning a trip. How many days in Barcelona, how many in Madrid, etc? * An incredibly valuable feature of the book, in my opinion, is that Mr. Steves provides a one-page listing of the primary sites in each city, ranking each site from zero to three stars based on how important it is to see each site. While I may not agree on his prioritization, the page makes for a quick checklist while you're walking or waiting for public transportation. * Mr. Steves is particularly good at recommending out-of-the-way lodging and ...
