. Great Eats Paris
by: Sandra Gustafson
January 15, 2007
I happened across a copy of Great Eats Paris by accident. I was in love the first time I opened it. I was going to Paris a week later and when I arrived, I never left without it! My previous trips to Paris have always been hit or miss when it came to eating out. However after 10 days I never ate at one bad restaurant, except of course for a recommendation from a friend. Of course, those that go for Italian instead of French food in PARIS should be disapointed.

. Great Eats Italy
by: Sandra Gustafson
2005-06
This is a great book to have. With the number of restaurants in the major tourist centers of Italy, many serving very mediocre food, it is nice to have a way to find some good places. I have the 3rd edition of this book (published in 1999) which I just used during a trip to Rome. Even though that book is old, I found the recommended restaurants to still be excellent. I am sure that the current 4th edition is even better. A key feature of the book was the maps showing the locations of the recommended restaurants. This made finding nearby restaurants very easy. The other book I used on my trip was "Gambero Rosso Rome." That book had no maps, so was very hard to use.

. Eloquence Is Power: Oratory and Performance in Early America
by: Sandra M. Gustafson
June 27, 2002
Sandra Gustafson's 2000 book, "Eloquence Is Power," seeks through historical reconstructions of key figures and key moments, to recuperate the dramatic influence of oratory in the formation of America. Complementing and complicating the established American mythos surrounding founding documents like the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, Gustafson explores the dynamic and dialectic of what she terms the 'performance semiotic' and its impact on American culture from its earliest figurations to the present day. Gustafson defines the performance semiotic as the historical interplay between speech and text, which 'performs social conflict,' setting the stage for a broader notion of cultural interplay between racial and gendered identities, and ... . Cheap Eats in Italy/a Guide to More Than 150 Inexpensive Ristorantes, Trattorias, and Cafes in Florence, Rome, and Venice
by: Sandra Gustafson
1993-04
Although Ms. Gustafson's series of books is now "Great" instead of "Cheap", they still contain valuable, personal reviews of relatively inexpensive hotels. The idea is not the cheapest spots (see the Let's Go series for those), but less costly hotels which give above-average value for the money. I've stayed at her recommended hotels in both Florence and Rome and found them exactly as described. You won't be disappointed unless you expect 4-star amenities in a 2-star hotel.
