. Living Dead In Dallas
City Travel Guides > Books > Horror
by: Charlaine Harris
March 26, 2002
This is the 2nd book is Harris' southern vampire novels and I think she does a great job at following up the first one Dead Until Dark.
Again we join Sookie Stackhouse as she is drawn even more into the world of the supernatural. This time she is to use her mind reading talents for a vampire in Dallas. All the while continuing to fall deeper in love with her vampire boyfriend, learn more about the under belly of her small town and deal more with Eric, a vampire leader you just know has a thing for her and eventually it will create problems.
After reading the 2nd and not being disapointed I know I will continue on through the series.

. The Graveyard Book

Imagine Rudyard Kipling's "Jungle Book"... but replace the animals with ghosts, ghouls, werewolves and other such supernatural creatures.
Such is the concept of "The Graveyard Book," which cleverly turns Kipling's classic story into an exquisitely-written, darkly witty fantasy. While it starts as the assorted supernatural adventures of a young boy raised by ghosts, the story slowly evolves into a beautifully ghastly confrontation between Nobody Owens and the people who want to do him harm.
"There was a hand in the darkness, and it held a knife." A man named Jack kills an innocent family at night -- except for a baby boy, who toddles out to the graveyard.
With the approval of the Lady on the Grey, the Owens ghosts ... Read More:

When I bought this book at the local Zellers, I didn't even know there were other books before it until I made it to chapter three or four, but I read on anyway and loved it regardless. There were enough scenes where Sookie thinks about the past to know what had happened without droning on. It was for this reason that I fell in love with Eric's character. Both of his characters at least, as opposed to being a Bill fan. Which was why the end saddened me, but overall the story was great, and I hope to see more interaction between him and Sookie in the next book, even if it is just him doing his playful flirting

Ok so this is the third book is Harris' southern vampire novels. In this one Sookie has to deal with the fact that her vampire boyfriend Bill is being held captive and she is forced to save him. However this comes after he may/may not have actually left her for a female vamp he used to have a thing with.
Despite the confusion she still goes to help, and in this book we encounter a new character Alcide, a werewolf and another guy who seems to be drawn to Sookie.
Of the the three books I've read in the series so far I would probably say this was my least favorite but it's still a good read. Harris' way of writing the supernatural and mixing it with humour and relatibility is fun to read and easy to get into. I know I will continue reading the rest ... Read More:

Although I would like to give the author kudos for building a different world in this book wherein vampires and other creatures roam the earth and certain people have cool powers (ie Sookie's mind-reading is absolutely fab), this failed to enthuse me enough to suck me in to pull an all-nighter. There were too many characters with non-interesting descriptions that sometimes, you just can't get into it. The mystery was enough to make me finish the book though. All in all, not recommended.

This is another thoroughly enjoyable installment in this series. Sookie Stackhouse has got to be one of the most likeable characters in vampire fiction. In this installment she is taking part in a "Vampire Summit" bringing together a number of our favourite characters from past books, including Barry the Bellboy, Queen Sophie, Eric, Quinn (yum) and of course Bill the bad ex-boyfriend. (I must admit I have a soft spot for Bill!) This is an action packed installment full of murder, mayhem and marriage! I can't wait to see what Ms. Harris comes up with next!

So I was in a bookstore and I had to kill some major time and that is how I came across Harris' southern vampire novels. I had never heard of them before so I thought I would try the first one out. Well I read it in a day and went back to the bookstore and picked up the of the series that was availiable.
This book introduces us to Harris' heroine Sookie Stackhouse, a beautiful waitress in a small town bar. Not only does Sookie live in a world where vampires have recently been agknowledge as existing and are open to the public, she also has the gift/curse of being able to read people's minds.
I don't want to give anymore away but I would say that any fan of the supernatural should read this book, especially if you like your stories modern and with a ... Read More:
