City Travel Guides Discounted Books : The Shack
.The Shack
City Travel Guides > Books > Mystery and Thrillers
by: William P Young

July 01, 2008
I heard a lot about The Shack, but didn't read it until almost a year later. Surprisingly, this book exceeded my expectations! There are a lot of lessons to be learned from reading this book. Personally, the chapter on judgement was very challenging for me. You'll still be mulling over what you read in this book weeks after you've finished it. Read it and pass it on, or buy copies for your friends. Everyone should read this book!

City Travel Guides Discounted Books : Careless in Red
.Careless in Red
City Travel Guides > Books > Mystery and Thrillers
by: Elizabeth George

May 06, 2008
I must admit getting hooked up on the Thomas Lynley/Barbara Havers stories through television. Recently, I bought several of the book versions of the works of Elizabeth George to see, how much more enjoyable details are there in print. In general, the books are way better. This one seems to be the exception. There is so much unrelated detail, that it becomes painfull to read through it, especially, because the main plot is also disappointing. I did not give up on Elizabeth George, the next one must be better again.

City Travel Guides Discounted Books : Fearless Fourteen: A Stephanie Plum Novel
.Fearless Fourteen: A Stephanie Plum Novel
City Travel Guides > Books > Mystery and Thrillers
by: Janet Evanovich

June 17, 2008
Well this book was a real disappointment, it just wasn't funny. There was probably one part in the entire book where I laughed. No cars got blown up and Stephanie didn't take out any of Ranger's men. It's almost like someone else wrote this book. I've read the entire series including all the in-between the numbers books and this one is by far the worst.

If you'be read and like the rest of the series, don't buy this one you'll just be disapointed. It's just awful.

City Travel Guides Discounted Books : The Pillars of the Earth (Deluxe Edition) (Oprah's Book Club)
.The Pillars of the Earth (Deluxe Edition) (Oprah's Book Club)
City Travel Guides > Books > Mystery and Thrillers
by: Ken Follett

November 14, 2007
When a novel is as thick as "Pillars of the Earth", I am usually skeptical whether it will keep me interested throughout. And, the start was slow, but only for a couple of pages. And then, it really started. I had a tough time putting the book down before I reached the ending. The depiction of medieval times was so vivid that I could picture the villages, the buildings and the people quite clearly in my mind, almost as if I were watching a movie instead of reading a novel. The storyline is very good and kept me on my toes as if the book were a modern day suspense thriller. If you want to spend a couple of days reading a good novel, you cannot go wrong with this one.

City Travel Guides Discounted Books : World Without End
.World Without End
City Travel Guides > Books > Mystery and Thrillers
by: Ken Follett

October 09, 2007
Having read and enjoyed Pillars of the Earth when it first came out, I rather looked forward to reading it's follow-up, World Without End. Obviously I was 18 years younger when I enjoyed Pillars of the Earth, and I expect more from a book now. World Without End might be called Book Without End. The characters are flat, the plot is predictable to the point its irritating, and I finally gave up on page 843 because there couldn't possibly have been a satisfactory ending to make all that plodding worthwhile. There are many thoroughly enjoyable books out there, but this isn't one of them. Do yourself a favour, save your money and buy something else.

City Travel Guides Discounted Books : The Last Oracle
.The Last Oracle
City Travel Guides > Books > Mystery and Thrillers
by: James Rollins

June 24, 2008
James Rollins remains at the top of his game in his newest thriller, The Last Oracle. Extracting events from history and melding the subject with cutting-edge technology, his newest books' theme is a connection between the Delphi Oracle, autistic savants, genetic engineering and politics.

The Sigma team (a secret U.S. defense agency appearing in many of Rollins' previous books) has returned, to investigate a trail of seemingly non-related incidents including a murdered radioactive man, a kidnapped autistic child and a stolen Greek coin from the site of the Delphi. Dodging assassins as they travel from India to Chernobyl, the team learn that a specific line of children have been kidnapped and genetically modified to enhance and exploit their special ... City Travel Guides Discounted Books : Bones to Ashes: A Novel
.Bones to Ashes: A Novel
City Travel Guides > Books > Mystery and Thrillers
by: Kathy Reichs

June 24, 2008
Oh, do I ever adore Reichs's novels. Her novels show proof that there are no limits to one's imagination - especially when the author knows what she/he is talking about.

Reichs sucks you in with the first sentence and doesn't let go until the very last word. The mystery and forensic descriptions keep you just as glued to the pages as the characters do. Again, Tempe lands herself in trouble when she does something someone asked her not to do. But she can't let go of the possibility that the remains could be those of a friend that disappeared.

Twists and turns and a surprising ending make the entire book worth every single one of its 406 pages. A new twist with her ex-husband Pete could have come at a better time, and a twist with Ryan has ... Read More:

City Travel Guides Discounted Books : Nothing to Lose
.Nothing to Lose
City Travel Guides > Books > Mystery and Thrillers
by: Lee Child

June 03, 2008
I love the Jack Reacher series and have even pre-ordered them knowing they would be good. I didn't enjoy the previous book and didn't enjoy this one. Something is missing from the Jack Reacher of old. I think what appealed to me about the earlier books was that we saw different sides of Jack Reacher and also learned more and more about his earlier life as the series went on. We learned nothing new in this book. I would say it is a stand alone. The fact the Jack Reacher entered the political arena for the first time was surprising. I hope Lee can figure it out by the next book or I won't be willing to blindly order his books in hardcover.

City Travel Guides Discounted Books : Plague Ship
.Plague Ship
City Travel Guides > Books > Mystery and Thrillers
by: Clive Cussler

June 03, 2008

I love Clive Cussler and Jack Du Brul, but if they don't do better in future books in the Oregon Files series they won't keep me as a reader.

The base story of Plague Ship could have only come from the imaginative mind of Clive Cussler. Jack Du Brul is a brilliant writer when it comes to describing difficult escapes.

Unfortunately, the base story overwhelmed Jack Du Brul so that the book is threadbare in character development, almost devoid of menace derived from the villain's plots, and missing obvious elements to make the book's premises more credible. I found myself wondering why the book was so poorly constructed except in the excellent escape sequences involving the crew of the Oregon.

The book opens with a historical ... Read More:
