Roughly 80 years ago, William Strunk wrote a small textbook for students in his English Composition class. He wrote it with the intention of creation a short and accessible reference for his students, one of whom - E. B. White, author of the children's classic "Charlotte's Web" - would revise it almost thirty years later for publication to the general college market.

Since its inception, "The Elements of Style" has been the definitive text on clear written communication. The Official Guide is a must when studying for the GMAT. This is the only book that contains actual GMAT questions, retired though they might be. I took the GMAT recently and saw a number of questions in the verbal and math sections that were similarly structured to those in the book. The answer explanations are not that great, but do give you a direction from which an in depth understanding is possible. Take all of the questions in this book seriously, especially the hard ones and you will do well on the GMAT. Do the questions after you have thoroughly mastered the concepts tested on the GMAT in order to evaluate where you stand. Finally, don't use this book to learn the concepts as the overview provided is very rudimentary.

I found that this book, although useful in parts, didn't measure up to previous publications like Ask and It is Given and The Astonishing Power of Emotions. This book is one of a series of four books based on the initial conversations between Jerry and Abraham some 20+ years ago. The first in the series was Law of Attraction. The 3rd and 4th have yet to be published. I find this series to be a little dry and not as uplifting as the books I mentioned in the beginning of this review. Even though there is much revision and new material in Money, I did not find anything really NEW in this book. But still, I have learned to be a better "pivoter" as a result of this book, even though I still have trouble with positive aspects. Hence, 4 stars, even though ... Read More:

I found that this book, although useful in parts, didn't measure up to previous publications like Ask and It is Given and The Astonishing Power of Emotions. .Easy Spanish Phrase Book: Over 770 Basic Phrases for Everyday Use

There are indeed useful phrases for the traveler, but the way they show how to pronounce things is pretty awful at parts and you'd sound really weird pronouncing some of this stuff... for example:
English: "I want to leave these packages for a while" =
Spanish: "Quiero dejar estos paquetes un rato."
Their way to pronounce this is: "KYAY-ro day-HAHR ESS-tohss pah-KAY-tess oon RRAH-toh"
I know how to pronounce things well after over a year of learning spanish...Even looking over the small pronunciation guide in Madrigal's Magic Key to spanish will help a lot more with pronunciation. That sentence is more like "KYEH-roh deh-HAR ESS-tohs pah-KEH-tess oon RRAH-toh"
Anyway, still there are a lot of useful phrases and people will still probably ... Read More:

Important that while many recommend this book as self help such as myself it is important to make a few distinctions. Most self help today is pep talk with a few tips here and there but mostly nice stories that can help you "feel nice" and believe in yourself. This is somewhat differant. This maybe described by some to be a users manual for your brain. The science is derived from "modeling" the communication, verbal and non-verbal, of people who have been highly effective in communication and/or creating change. As someone put it before, this book is REQUIRED. I had to buy it again because went back to school and my old edition was outdated. It does the job but it is not so easy to read. As an example, it is my favorite book to put me to sleep. However, it is excellent to address the format of your papers. As a professional and graduate student, I thanks the editors for having this around.
I have not had any problem with my papers when I used this book. My professors think I am a specialist in APA. I just keep going back to this resource.
Not my choice of reading but it helps enormously!!!
