I recently purchased this cookbook and at first I thought that this was absolutely the best Middle Eastern book I could possibly get my hands on. However, after a few weeks use, I discovered that this book is very biased and does not reflect the true culinary journey through the Middle East. Furthermore, none of the receipes faired well with my favorite Courvoisier.

This is a very fine cookbook that provides a large number of mouth-watering recipes written in a clear and straightforward style. Dishes from both Eastern and Western Armenia are included, as are a number of Uvezian's own creations that are steeped in the Armenian tradition. Although the book lacks color photos, it does have a stunning color shot of Ararat Pilaf (two peaks of rice shaped like Great and Little Ararat) on the cover and includes beautiful drawings of dishes that are placed at the beginning of each chapter. I especially like the two illustrations that make striking use of old Armenian churches as a backdrop as well as the elegant medieval Armenian manuscript illumination that borders both the title page and the table of contents. ... This is one of the best autobiographies, that I have ever read. The book is full of content as supposed to words that just fill papers. Vartan Gregorian begins by describing a life filled with poverty and pain in a small city in Iran. He takes the reader through the journey that he took for more than 4 decades, and allows the reader to live through his words. He is a true inspiration to the world and especially to the Armenian community. Through his life experiences put into words, he demonstrates the true power of optimisim, hard work and motivation. This is a book that one does not want to put down. I strongly recommend this book.
