The rest are the usual information about cruising, ships, and Alaska you'd find in any other book you probably already have. The port information typically lists a few sightseeing, dining, and shopping opportunities for each port. I haven't been to these ports recently enough to know if they're complete. There is a map of each port, locating the referenced establishments. Although the text tells where the ships dock, that location is not usually shown on the map, making it difficult to tell how far away things will be. .Fodor's Alaska Ports of Call, 5th Edition: What to See & Do When You Go Ashore City Travel Guides > Books > Fodors to Go by: Fodor's January 08, 2002 Starting with a general overview of cruising and in particular Alaskan Cruising (giving info on small and large ships, packing, etc.) the book quickly moves into port-by-port descriptions. Each port section includes a map with key locations, information about getting around town from the docks, points of interest, and recommendations for shopping and dining. Also included is information about nearby out-door activities including self guided hikes and other activities as well as guided tours on bikes, boats, horses, rafting, etc. Just enough detail to have an idea what's available, where it's located, and what generally to expect-- and to book your own shore excursions if you want. .Fodor's Europe Ports of Call, 3rd Edition: What to See & Do When You Go Ashore City Travel Guides > Books > Fodors to Go by: Fodor's December 28, 1999 The descriptions of the ports were extremely limited due to the number of ports covered in this book. Since most people who cruise Europe tend to cruise one region, it would make more sense to have more detailed books devoted to specific regions. I bought this same type of book for an Alaskan cruise last year, and it was great, but there are fewer ports in Alaska. .Fodor's to Go: 48 Hours in London, 1st Edition City Travel Guides > Books > Fodors to Go by: Fodor's June 13, 2000 This is a great little guide for a weekend jaunt in England's capital city. Designed for travelers with a couple days of free time, it shows you the highlights through walking tours. A small map is included, providing a quick overview of London's layout. The city is broken down into districts (ie. Soho & West End, Covent Garden & Trafalger Square) with a selection of restaurants, stores, and attractions for each one. All in all, a good deal. One note of caution however: this guide is the same size as a credit card, but the covers are magnets. So don't put this near any of your credit cards or computer disks. Designed for travelers with a couple days to spare, it shows you the highlights through walking tours. A small map is included, providing a quick overview of Paris's layout. .Fodor's to Go: How to Pack, 1st Edition City Travel Guides > Books > Fodors to Go by: Fodor's June 13, 2000 While information in this book is useful, it is not worth the $8.25 you must pay for it (including shipping). The "book" is tiny, about 3" by 2". But, when you are at home packing, you don't need such a small book. The print is also very small. Particularly useful is a pronunciation guide. The biggest let-down with this book was its size and page format. Although I exepected this traveler's phrase book to be small, I didn't expect it to be as small as it is. It measures 2.25"x3.25" and is a magnetic type book with all the pages connected together in an accorian style.
