. Moon Handbooks Fiji
City Travel Guides > Books > Moon Handbooks
by: David Stanley
September 10, 2007
We've been talking about going to Fiji for years, and have looked at other books, but this book trumps them all. It's very thorough, with excellent descriptions that make us wish we could pack our bags and go today. Author David Stanley obviously loves Fiji, and his passion comes through in his writing. We also appreciate the way he doesn't sugar coat the less than perfect. This seems like a book you can really trust. And the history sprinkled throughout (great stories of Capt. Bligh, for instance), the interesting boxes full of fun information, and the very useable maps make it easy to get educated in all things Fijian. We also love the beginning section with beautiful color photography. It would be nice if all photos could be in color, but ... Read More:

. Moon Handbooks Havana
City Travel Guides > Books > Moon Handbooks
by: Christopher P. Baker
June 17, 2003
I also just got back from Cuba, and I couldn't disagree with Cecil Fox's January 17 review more. Baker is a very good writer who's done extensive research, and the book is pleasurable to read. He makes his love for the place palpable without sparing the reader the frustration a visitor/observer often feels. Other travelers staying where I did ended up borrowing this guidebook for its richness of detail and background that theirs (Lonely Planet) lacked. I liked it so much I'm buying another- I had to leave my copy on the plane as we were without licenses, and afraid of tipping-off US immigration. That said, I wish it were updated a bit. The million bicycles Baker writes about aren't there en masse anymore, and Dulce Maria's was fun but not the throbbing ... Read More:

. Moon Handbooks Nicaragua
City Travel Guides > Books > Moon Handbooks
by: Randy Wood
October 11, 2005
If you are planning to visit or move to nicaragua DO NOT leave without a copy of this book. These lovely gentlemen have not missed a beat when it comes to a summary of everything to see and do and understand about Nicaragua and the wonderful people that inhabit her. When we first moved here from North America-not speaking a word of spanish mind you (not an easy feat here)- this book was our lifeline and never disapointed us. ¡MUCHISIMO GRACIAS!

. Moon Handbooks South Korea
City Travel Guides > Books > Moon Handbooks
by: Robert Nilsen
December 01, 2003
South Korea is not as tourist-accesible as other countries and as someone who lived in Korea for two years I really think this was a must-have. I loved traveling all over S. Korea and was able to get many destination ideas from places that Mr. Nilsen described. This book was invaluable in giving information about historic/important sites that I would otherwise have overlooked or just never have known about. Well-researched and clearly written by an author who knows and cares about his subject. That was important to me because I really grew to love Korea in the time I spent there.

. Australia Handbook
City Travel Guides > Books > Moon Handbooks
by: Johnson & Hempstead
April 06, 2000
I bought a number of guides to Australia and studied each before leaving. They were all helpful in planning my trip, but Australia Handbook stood out for its coverage of the country in general as well as all the usual hotel and restaurant recommendations. As well as balancing this coverage, I found the book to be up to date and, with everywhere I traveled, anyway, coverage was thorough. Many guidebooks I have used in the past concentrate on the big cities, but this one led me further afield to the kind of places only locals would usually know about. By the end of my trip I was relying almost entirely on it for places to stay and eat, and couldn't find a fault in the choices provided. I highly recommend this book to anyone traveling to Australia.
