. Into the Wild
City Travel Guides > Books > Adventure
by: Jon Krakauer
August 21, 2007
I would first rate this book 4 * from an objective point of view because I've found that Krakauer's personal mountain-climbing story breaks the flow. It was like interrupting your reading of one book and starting to read a completely different one on a similar subject matter. However the
book is so well written, you can't put it down.
I personally give it 5 stars because I find that it was important to bring out this tragic story to light. This book is not just about a troubled young man who died on his journey mainly by his own fault. It is also about a young person's soul-searching quest, reaching for higher ideals, finding your place in what is becoming an overly unjust world.

. Lonely Planet Ecuador & the Galapagos Islands
City Travel Guides > Books > Adventure

I found This book a good help and way to get to know about your destination(Ecuador). I read this book and enjoy it. I liked the way the author present his information to the readers about this destination. I have been to Ecuador and comparing the information that the author presented in his book, with some other local and travel guides of Ecuador i can see that there are some important missing information. In the other hand the book provides lot of good information, recomendations of what to do and visit when you visit this country. The author gets you to this trip while you are reading it, and makes you want to be there. I sugguest that anybody that is going to Ecuador to read this book before they go there. The author provides you with lot of information ... Read More:

. Eiger Dreams: Ventures Among Men and Mountains
City Travel Guides > Books > Adventure
by: Jon Krakauer
May 19, 1997
People have always pushed to accomplish more. When one of my best friends took up mountain climbing well into his fifties after he back wasn't up to golf any more, I began to wonder what the sport was all about. Having remembered that Jon Krakauer is both a wonderful writer and an adventuresome climber, it seemed like I might learn the answers by reading this book. I was more than amply rewarded for my curiosity.
Knowing that adventures are better heard as a story rather than read, I also opted for Philip Franklin's reading for Books on Tape. This was a stunningly good choice. Mr. Franklin makes you feel like you are right there as you look down from dizzying heights of thousands of feet while being held up by a small patch of crumbling ice.

. Deep Survival
City Travel Guides > Books > Adventure
by: Laurence Gonzales
October 10, 2004
This book should be read by everyone.
As I spend allot of time in the wilderness I read this book as it was recommended to me by a friend. I am happy I did.
Having spent many days, weeks and months of my life in the bush I've seen and heard horror stories of when people allow themselves to get into dangerous situations.
This book will give an understanding of why even experienced people get into trouble and often times it is their previous experience that causes the catastrophe.
Deep Survival gives the reader the information necessary to look and correctly analyze the danger spots in everyday life be it in the woods, on the beach or on a downtown street.
This book will be over the heads of some of its readership as Gonzales ... Read More:
