I thoroughly enjoyed this well-written book, but still can't make up my mind about what to think about Christopher McCandless himself. He is not really too young to forgive him all the blunders he made and all the contradictions in his views. I'm only sorry that he did not live through this to learn his lesson. I'm looking forward to read the next book by Krakauer, "Into This Air". I love his style of writing and the richness of his vocabulary.

Top notch information all around. I recently came across Mr. Gray's other book on owning recreational properties and decided to give this one a shot. If you're planning to move to the US or already live there I guarantee that you won't regret making this purchase. Every possible detail that you would ever want to know about is covered in this book. Highly recommended stuff.

Long passages written in a verbose authoritative style make this book hard to follow. I think it is badly in need of an editor.

They should sell it along with a cowbell because so many tourists have unknowingly bought into their shtick. This new edition almost word for word matches the previous edition.

I found the restaurant list needs updating. This guide just has all sorts of major errors that warrented the return.

We used this book when we made our first trip in 2006, and bought the newest version for our return trip later this year. I've bought several similar guides, and this is the best by far. Information is detailed, thorough and well-organized. What I particularly appreciate about this series is that it is refreshingly honest - since it is written by a team independent of the Disney franchise, they aren't afraid to say what a tourist shouldn't miss...and what they should! This book has saved me both time and money, and as an added bonus it is thoroughly entertaining to read, due to the writer's witty and sometimes tongue-in-cheek approach. A quick geography lesson: which country is larger, Canada or the USA?
If the coverage allotted Canada in this 1000+ page volume were your guide, you might be forgiven if you felt that Canada occupied less than 10% of North America - rather than actually being the larger of the two nations.
The section dedicated to highlighting the beauty and splendor of Canada is smaller than the book's indexes! (100 pages on Canada, 104 pages of indexes in the paperback edition)
Any researching appears to be minimal at best, and apparently dredged from a handful of tourism-department websites. Including "Canada" in the title could only be described as misrepresentation - or maybe just a money grab in an attempt to sell more books for those interested in this ... Read More:
