It is a good read for people with recent encountering with Egypt. But I was little appalled because information seemed dull. Book will give you facts and names but there isn't much more. Colorful images will attract your attention but I really believe those images have interesting legend and tales by their own.

This book really does cover nearly all events that have taken place in this period of history, But it is written in the shortest form possible. I really recommend this book as well as its second edition to anyone who truly loves history.

I knew this book was not thick. It is a thin book with a bunch of maps. But this is an atlas, it was not supposed to be a tome. If it was bigger in dimensions with correspondingly bigger maps that would be nice. But then probably double the cost for little benefit.

It is 9.5"x7" and (1/4") 144 pages with about 52 maps of lands, ~12 maps of cities, and ~15 mini-maps of battles (2"x2", Cannae). And ~70 pictures with some of them drawings of a villa, of the coliseum, or other parts of the city, and also two industry drawings of how a olive oil factory worked and a typical mine in Spain. Most pictures are vases, mosaics, buildings/ruins, coins, and sculpture.

The maps and text are first-rate. What I don't like, however, is the fact that many of the maps are spread over two pages causing a loss of some detail (usually the part I'm interested in) between the pages where they join the binding. For the most part, the maps could have fit on one page with the text being on another. Instead the publishers put text around the maps and put the map in the centre, at the binding.

I agree with the reviewer who said that this book assumes you are already familiar with Greek history and even Greek geography. It is not an introductory book. Rather, it's a very good book to read after you have read a number of other books. It ties together scholarly opinion. There are still-existing controversies in Greek history, and it may be that this book takes a position in some instances that not everyone agrees with. But I don't see that as a major issue.
To be able to read comfortably just about any book on Greek history you should be familiar with the geography. This is hard for us Americans, but it is a gradual learning process, and finally when they mention Argos or Thebes or Delphi or Thrace you will know more or less where these ... Read More:
