Having researched most atlases at both public and university libraries, I am in the position to state this is the best atlas in the world, best of the best. Although I am only talking about the atlas quality and not the price.

Dave Shoalts has been covering the Maple Leafs for the Globe and Mail for almost two decades now, and done a fine job of it. He obviously is bright, and he obviously has a good sense of humor.

With people like that, you obviously have the idea that he knows more than he tells on a daily basis ... or at least knows where to go for stories about what went on behind the scenes. It's about time, then, that Shoalts has cleaned out his files to publish the very entertaining, "Tales of the Maple Leafs."

The book has about 170 pages of anecdotes. Some are from such players as Jim McKenney and Glenn Healy, some are from former team executives, and some from other media members. While many are funny, some are simply instructive ... Read More:

While doing my research for my work I kept coming across this man's work being refferenced to. It soon became apparent this was a key book and I had to read it to continue my research. I could not find this book in any second hand store and felt very lucky to find it in a library. I had with great anticipation finaly got the book in my hands and I was not dissapointed. No doubt this book is hated by conventional geologists and other branches of science...because it is so explosive. they ignore it but if you're looking for the truth, don't ignore this one.

If the "Interstate Exit Authority" was currently available, I would difinately NOT recommend "the Next Exit". Exit Authority was head and shoulders above Next Exit. BUT since this seems to be all that is available, I have no choice. several years ago I purchased the Next Exit, and the next year purchased Intereste Exit Authority. I have just received the 2004 Next exit and find I am still disapointed, but it is better than nothing.

Just got back from a wonderful vacation. This mapguide was incredibly helpful in finding all the locations I wanted to go to. More importantly for anyone who travels a lot and likes to wander and explore, you can easily figure out where you are and then where to go to catch the tube or bus. It is compact and handy. I cannot recommend this enough. The details for a city known for it's complexity make this invaluable.

Simply put the whole package is wonderful. The map quality, layout and concept are all A+. The writeups are just the right tone and length for a coffee table style book. For trainspotters and geographers, this is hours of delight. Not sure about the rest of you but would love to hear your opinions on this well-put together book.

I find that Rick Steves' "back door" philosophy and his general tips are sound, so I bought Italy 2006.
The book is promoted as a guidebook to the whole country.
Surprise! It only covers selected tourist centers, and concentrates on the big cities. Most of the towns of southern Italy aren't mentioned. Sicily is not even in the index!

You want to learn how to use a map and compass? Mostly for navigating on land, especially remote wilderness? This is the best comprehensive book I've found on the subject, bar none. Reasons:

1. It gets to the point quickly in teaching you map & compass fundamentals. No fluff, no wasted time on esoteric principles of magnetism, rules of orienteering competitions (a fine sport, but one bearing little resemblance to actual wilderness navigation with its special large-scale magnetic-north maps etc.) Just realistic wilderness land navigation.

2. It teaches realistic methods, and does not emphasize the unrealistic ones (one glaring example: penciling a lot of inaccurate magnetic declination lines all over your map the night before ... Read More:
