Unlike alot of travel books this one is laid out more like a novel with more explanations and full descriptions. This can get a little confusing if you need to find something in a hurry but it certainly provides you with more information. I visited Vancouver back in August for 5 days, so decided to buy the book and be prepared before hand. The restaurent section is superb.I found various small resaurants that felt untouched by any tourist. I felt like a local after being there only a few days. The only thing it lacks is more photos and nice paper stock. I also bought the lonely planet Vancouver book, and each had there own qualities. If the two books were combined it would make for an unbeatable guide.

Ron Judd is the outdoor editor at the Seattle Times. His passion, experince, and knowlege of Washington State is captured in this comprehensive yet succint book. Judd outines Washington's nine geographicall locations. Each section contains all the general inforamtion about the areas plus a list of informational numbers. Also included are descriptions and information about what outdoor type acitivities can be done, as well as where to eat and sleep in the area after doing them. This book is easy to use and easy to read which makes it a great planing tool for weekends and longer trips. As a new commer to the Pacific Northwest this book comes highly recommened to those still unaquainted with the natural treasures of Washington State.

Overall, a well-organized introduction to the high points (and high life) of Southern CA. Excellent "mini-tour" suggestions, complete with stop-by-stop itineraries. Could use a bit of polish on specifics, like festival dates and contact info, but otherwise, a great planning resource. Focus is primarily on upscale establishments, hotels and eateries, definitely not for those who are looking to do "California on $25 a day"....

My husband and I keep this book in our car so that whenever we're in Portland we can grab it quickly. In addition to the alphabetical listing and descriptions of 200 reasonably priced restaurants, the book has an excellent index. You can look up restaurants by section of town or by the type / style of food you want. Cheap Eats has given us the opportunity to sample many different restaurants that we would never have found without it. Instead of picking the same places over and over, you can expand your choices...and eat well inexpensively.
