.Blue Guide Albania City Travel Guides > Books > Blue Guide by: Pettifer July 19, 1996 This book was indeed very useful and relevant as a travel guide when it was released nearly six years ago, but the changes in Albania since that time have been so sweeping that much of the practical information, such as accommodation, is nearly obsolete. I can personally testify that it is a fantastic and gorgeous nation of diverse cities and landscapes worthy of a long stay. I refer to mine again and again. One caveat: the subway lines are now happily back to normal, again running to South Ferry, and the map included in this book, which went to press shortly after the World Trade Center disaster, is out of date. .Blue Guide Turkey City Travel Guides > Books > Blue Guide by: Bernard Mcdonagh July 06, 1995 Too short on practical details, won't help you to plan your own trip. I successfully planned my own trips in a few countries of the world with guide books and Internet, reserved my own hotels, pinpointed goals. This book does not help at all. It's more than a reading book (rather interesting one) than a travel guide. It does not tell you different ways to get places, how long a trip from usual gateways (Istanbul) can take, does not list your options (ferry, hydrofoil, bus, train). If I was writing such book I'd even provide sample timetables so the reader would know how often approximately the ferries or buses go. But this book is totally bent on history like history is all that is in Turkey. No beaches, no sports. So I have to hire a tour operator ...
