. Blue Guide: Spain
City Travel Guides > Books > Blue Guide
by: Ian Robertson
2002
I have always found the Blue Guides a reliable companion on my travels before, even several of Mr Robertson's works, but I am quite disappointed with the edition on Spain. Perhaps the subject can not be covered in a single volume as broadly as attempted here, but all the wonder of a beautiful and passionate land is lacking, reduced to a dry recitation of battle history and towns described as, "bypassed, church has a Mudejar tower; opposite is mansion with 15th-century door." This is such a shame in that no other series of guides attempts the serious examination of history, art and architecture that the Blue Guides do.

. Blue Guide Switzerland
City Travel Guides > Books > Blue Guide
by: Ian Robertson
September 23, 1992
One has to just say that this tome is a veritable tease my chauffeur had it but we were lost several times in back streets which Miss Massey had not even bothered to tell us would or might or possible could encumber our progress. Also, I have to say that the constant feeble attempts at "jokes" come somewhat short of the standards expected, indeed required, by one. All in all a tome to be thrown from the chauffeur's window, as it was, to lie forlorn on some strasse or other as we sped away.

. Albania Blue Guide
City Travel Guides > Books > Blue Guide
by: James Pettifer
April 08, 1994
This book was indeed very useful and relevant as a travel guide when it was released nearly six years ago, but the changes in Albania since that time have been so sweeping that much of the practical information, such as accommodation, is nearly obsolete. I can personally testify that it is a fantastic and gorgeous nation of diverse cities and landscapes worthy of a long stay. For anyone who doesn't have the benefit of personal connection to serve as guidance there, an updated objective travel guide on Albania is certainly overdue.

. Blue Guide Boston And Cambridge
City Travel Guides > Books > Blue Guide
by: John Freely
April 29, 1994
John Feely has written the thinking person's guide to Boston. This could substitute easily for a history or architecture textbook about the city. It is very accessible because of an excellent index. The text is quite detailed and organized nicely giving first the history, geography and then current status of monuments, buildings, museums, geographic features and neighborhoods. There are some cautions for the buyer. The print is small and the directions for walkers both inside and outside of buildings might be confusing. This is not a guide for hotels, restaurants or entertainment. The book could use some more detailed street maps within each section, similar to the Michelin green guides. Overall a good choice at a good price.
