. Blue Guide Northern Italy
City Travel Guides > Books > Blue Guide

February 01, 2001
If you want to know about the art, architecture, history, culture, and landscapes of Northern Italy, then this is the book you need. Using solely this guide, we spent 2 weeks in and around this region of Italy. We never wondered what we were looking at, because we merely turned to the location in the guide, and read all about the place. To me, as a well-traveled person, if I want to know something about a place, a Blue Guides will give me all you ever wanted to know. A Blue Guide is my "tour guide" wherever I go. The thoughtful insights and small drawings add a nice feel to the book, and the information is always right on the money.

. Blue Guide New York
City Travel Guides > Books > Blue Guide
by: Von Wright
July 16, 1990
Because I note that the existing reviews on this site refer to the previous edition, this New Yorker recommends the Blue Guide as the only NY guidebook you will need. I refer to mine again and again. One caveat: the subway lines are now happily back to normal, again running to South Ferry, and the map included in this book, which went to press shortly after the World Trade Center disaster, is out of date. Updated maps are posted in every subway station and train, are available free at every subway change booth, and can be reviewed on the Web.

. Blue Guide Rome
City Travel Guides > Books > Blue Guide
by: Alta Macadam
May 12, 1998
This book divides Rome into 29 walking tours. Each one takes about a day. Maybe you could do two per day in the summer. A few of the tours have a common theme, but most of them just cover a region of the city. The focus is on cultural/historical sites. There's very little about where to eat, sleep, or shop. The author is thorough and provides a lot of insight. The book reads as a folksy continuous narrative by a knowledgeable and perceptive guide. If you have a month in Rome, you could use this book to get a great tour. Many tourists would find this book difficult to use. Suppose you're in Rome for a few days, not nearly enough time to walk all 29 tours. There is no easy way to use this book to prioritize which sites to ... Read More:

. Blue Guide Cyprus
City Travel Guides > Books > Blue Guide
by: Ian Robertson

I bought this book and the Rough Guide to Cyprus for my year long stay in Cyprus. Get the Rough Guide. This book is far less informative and is quite out of date. For instance, despite the fact that the edition I bought was "updated" in something like 1997, it still lists the US Embassy at an address that has been defunct for about 10 years. Pretty basic item for a travel book to have straight. The book is readable but unless you're looking for a very quick intro to Cyprus, get the Rough Guide instead.

. Blue Guide Jerusalem
City Travel Guides > Books > Blue Guide
by: Kay Prag

This book is not like other guide books. It doesn't cover restaurants and hotels in Jerusalem. The guide book is a historical guide through the history of the holy city. It covers the history of churches, mosques, jewish holy places, city walls, etc. in a way that makes other guide books treatment of the historical data look like a childrens book!!!! THIS IS THE MOST THOROUGH AND IN DEPTH GUIDE BOOK ON JERUSALEM WHICH I HAVE READ ABOUT THE FASCINATING HISTORY OF THE CITY!!!! I am looking forward to the new edition of this "must" which is going to be published in 2002.
