. To Asia with Love: A Connoisseurs Guide to Cambodia, Laos, Thailand Vietnam
City Travel Guides > Books > Cambodia
by: Kim Fay
January 01, 2005
Although this is a beautiful looking book, the content is poorly laid out and confusing. That might be because, as claimed, its not a real tour guide (like Frommer's, etc.). My question after reading it is, what exactly is this book and what is the author attempting to achieve. All the information is readily available online, and there simply isn't enough here to either recommend it or to even pick it up and read it for a second time!! The information just isnt unique enough and the lay out is confusing. I'd say stick to the traditional guide books.

. Off the Rails in Phnom Penh
City Travel Guides > Books > Cambodia
by: Gilboa A
December 01, 2000
I read Off the Rails in Phnom Penh (great title!) a few years ago but was reminded of it recently. And I have to say that after a few years the images exposed between these covers stayed with me. The antics Amit's expat subjects engage in are at once disgusting and riveting. I had a particularly hard time reading the sex chapter. I just never really believed people like that existed. Or if they did it was someplace wayyyy over there. Amit brings them up close and personal and shines a light on the inhumanity of Man. At the same time though he portrays the people of Cambodia and the country as one of great beauty and profound history. I recommend this book.
