A great reference for your Arubian vacation. We used it constantly, on the plane, on the beach, and in the desert! Great hints/tips, maps, suggested exploring routes, recommended beaches, shopping, diving sites, etc. Only gave it 4 stars b/c it is becoming slightly out of date. Need an updated version soon...However, still highly recommended!

I was going to buy this book, but a new updated edition is supposed to be in the works. Per my Dive Shop, this is one of the Pisces dive guides, this one published in 1991. Apparently Lonley Planet bought the series and is updating and reissuing each book. The Bonaire book I'm told is due out in July of 2001.

Otherwise I have found this series to be excellent.

This was a great litle bit of escape from our long Canadian winter. Includes a litle bit about sailing, a litle bit about changing our lives, a litle bit about travel, a litle bit about rum and a lot about food and cooking. Includes very human touches that makes us feel like we are joinging the couple on their voyage.

There are many references to food and cooking throughout the book and recipes at the end of each chapter.

I found myself reading a chapter each morning before starting my day, then another chapter to end my day. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a daydream. Enjoy!

I enjoyed this book immensely.

As I have only known Anne professionally by working with her in corporate life, it was very rewarding to gain an additional perspective about her as a person and as part of her life's team (Jerry & Anne) by reading this wonderful story. It was also very educational to learn of this couple's preparation for such an undertaking and then to read of the experience almost hour by hour as they lived it. I have to say that the passage to Bermuda and on to the BVI's was exceptional.

I also enjoyed Jerry's perspective when he included the background on Caribbean history and that area's relationship to America's struggle for freedom in breaking away from England. It was refreshing to learn more about ... Read More:

If you are planning to cruise the Bahamas and Virgins - Van Sant is as important as your GPS. Don't leave home without it. Then, USE IT. Follow his advice - to the letter. The "Gentleman Cruiser" knows of what he speaks. He's been there-done it-and has the t-shirt (or knowledge - if you will).

I have a Captain's license and have taught navagation, safe boating and Rules of the Road - and was associated with a very active USCG Aux. flotilla before adopting the crusing life. Van Sant's description of weather, air and patterns is undoubtedly the best I have ever come across. I have recommended that his narrative be used for the Auxilliary Weather classes.
