You'll make many of these recipes your own, as I have. This is a book written with absolute awe of French patisserie, and yet the recipes are extremely well presented for American kitchens. The type is a little difficult to read, however. The book is one of the excellent examples of coffee tables books that serve also as workaday cookbooks. Paris is tops in world pastry, and this book captures its essence. One caveat: it's awfully hard to read this book without springing for an airline ticket. Be warned!

I can honestly say that no other brand of travel guide will give you the feel of a country more than DK's Eyewitness series. Eyewitness Spain is a beautiful book that uses excellent pictures, maps, and illustrations more than words to bring across the FEEL of Spain.

When planning a trip to Spain, I would reccomend this book along with the Rough Guide to Spain as an unbeatable duo. Whereas Rough Guide provides you with the nitty-gritty and exhaustive traveling advice, Eyewitness Spain will ensure that you will be anticipating your trip like none other.

I adored this book, I was actually reading it while travelling in the UK and Spain, and a few weeks earlier, I was in Paris...

A Year in the Merde had me laughing until the sides of my tummy hurt, it had me lusting after the character, after the city of Paris, it had me wishing I lived there, despite all the ridiculous hypocrisy, the childish strikes, the huffy crowds, the expensive cafes that are Paris. Paris is enchanting at any time of the year, I believe. The book is divided into months, and it excludes the summer months because that's when all of France is on vacation!

This book is just what you need to escape the world of North American life. If you enjoy a bottle of red wine and some italian(or french) bread with some cheese, set yourself up and read for an hour or so.

The book is an easy read with simple yet inviting recipes at the end of every chapter or so.

Set in a small Tuscan village it is an autobiographical report of the authors time there. Every story seems to surround a meal. It just seemed to be a nice place to go(the book) when life is crowding in.
