This condensed Vienna guidebook is a must for anyone who wishes to visit Vienna, Austria. This book lists all the key sites and minor attractions which are broken down into specific areas of the city; Hofburg, Stephansdom, Schonbrunn, etc. It's easy to read, full of illustrations, and a wealth of basic information. I used it a lot when I was in Vienna for 3 nights in May 2006. It also contains a list of hotels, restaurants and cafes, and things to do like city tours. I recommend taking a city tour because it is a great way to learn a little bit more about the city and, you get to meet some wonderful people from other parts of the world.

The guide itself has beautiful pictures and colorful diagrams, but it really seems more like a nice souvenir or book for your travel collection than a practical guide book you want to accompany you on the trip. It is very, very brief on everything. It's not bad for getting a quick general overview of the islands and some info. on Greek culture, history, climate, etc., perhaps to help you choose the island group you would like to concentrate your trip on. However, as far as a more in-depth, practical guide with real recommendations on hotels and sights, I would recommend a Lonely Planet or Rough Guide to take with you on the trip.

I used this book during my April 2004 trip to Bavaria, Germany and found it helpful. It catered mainly to tourists interested in fine art and I could have used more 'quirky' trips and a guide to out of the way places. It also didn't include anything about Legoland which is about an hour north of Garmisch (where we stayed). I traveled with my 2 kids and this book didn't seem to have any info on places catering to or of interest to kids. Overall it was a great book and we saw many sights, but I could have used more. This had the BIG attractions--where are the little 'Mom and Pop' places we love, also???

Colorful guidebook has marvelous images that create an immediate illustration of Bali and Lombok.

While the practical references are a bit truncated (foreign embassies listed are only Australia and USA; hotel & restaurant listings are scanty), the cultural & special interest tips are excellent.

The guide works its magic by tying photos to text. The reader can zero in on an image and immediately see the relevant text. This is a highly practical format, leaving no mystery as to whether some place or item may be of real interest to the individual reader. Therefore, reader can figure out what he/she wants to see & do without slogging through chapter upon chapter of text.

DK's Eyewitness Travel Guides are our best travel companion during our tour of Europe. Full of tips, pictures, maps, site info, history, local reference ... every page is not only helpful but beautiful. The layout anf format is very innovative and reader friendly, a ture standing out from any other travel books. It was interesting to see that almost everywhere we went, we saw other people (tourists apparently) holding and checking the same DK book on the street.
The coverage is comprehensive and growing year after year, Paris, Rome, Florence, Venice ... every city we went have its own Eyewitness serie. I recently used this book in Shaghai and it was very useful. I like the fact that the names of the places that are highlighted have the Chinese characters. This is particularly useful for disambiguation if you need to ask someone for more information. I wish the pinyin romanization would have the tone markers though as that would make it easier for those who speak some Chinese and would like to be able to pronounce the place names correctly when asking for information.

I also used the two 90-Minute Walk guides for Shanghai and found that some of the places mentioned along the walk were not always easy to find. In fact, some of the mentioned places I never found.
