. Fodor's Moscow and St. Petersburg, 5th Edition: The Guide for All Budgets, Completely Updated, with Many Maps and Travel Tips

This is a great book for planning your trip, what to see, etc. It's up to date, and the maps of these old cities are impeccable. What it doesn't give you is a sense of what Russia is like these days--something hard to get into words. For that, take a look at "The Chess Artist," by Hallman. Less maps, but a real sense of how weird Russia can get.

. Fodor's Pocket Acapulco, 3rd Edition: Including Taxco, Ixtapa and Zilhuatanejo

I have been hunting around for books on Acapulco, and basically I've found that it is a weak area for the established travel authors. This book lacks the kinds of detail and "meat" that you expect in a travel book, but again, so does the competition. Perhaps it has to do with the destination? If you can accept the paucity of good information on Acapulco, then this book covers the bases. It gives enough restaurant and club names to pass muster, gives the necessary travel warnings and hints, and tells you where you need to be given your wants. You can read all of this book in 2 hours. Nice size for traveling but not such a good reference book for getting around.

. Ireland '99: The Complete Guide with Dublin Walks, Country Drives, Celtic Sites, Golf, and Sh opping

Another reader commented that Fodor's had too much stuff in it and not enough depth, and that is my feeling exactly. The first time I went to Ireland I used Fodor's, and was very dissatisfied. True, there was a lot of information, but it was pretty high-level, and didn't go into much detail. The next time I went, I used a book written by Dan McQuillan and published by Open Road entitled Ireland Guide. I found it to be so much more useful, and it had a wider spread of cost ranges for B&Bs, hotels, and restaurants. The information was much more in-depth. Also, much of it was written in a playful, personal style, which made it fun reading. Wish I'd had it on my first trip.

I was not fully satisfied with this guide, first of all the rides are rated with only 3 stars, So new rides have 3 stars, old rides have 2 stars and young kid rides have one star. This is regardless of actual quality. This guide gave Pirates of the Caribbean and It's a Small World 2 stars and some other really stupid new rides Such as Conservation Station at The Animal Kingdom 3 stars. We went to a recommended Cuban restaurant that had great Paella according to Fodors, they had us wait 2 hours for the most horrendous and overpriced paella ever. All the tips for each ride and park can be summed up as : Get there really early or really late. The book is not bad, the scope is awesome and some reviews will be updated I hope when these people ... Read More:
