.Footprint Bolivia Handbook City Travel Guides > Books > Footprint Handbooks by: Alan Murphy 2000-09 I was saddened by this review. As author of Footprint's Bolivia Handbook, and someone who lived in La Paz for a while, I have a deep affection for the country and its people. The accusation that I "speak in a very bad way" about the country is deeply offensive and shows that the reader hasn't bothered to read the text thoroughly before sharing their views. This guidebook is by no means perfect - no guidebook every can be - but at least it strives to be honest. .Footprint Scotland Highlands & Islands Handbook: The Travel Guide City Travel Guides > Books > Footprint Handbooks by: Alan Murphy 2001-08 Having just returned from my 2nd trip to Scotland, and this time touring the Highlands, this book was by far the most complete and comprehensive of any guide book I used. It gave phone numbers, things not to miss, and even included info on "things to do on Skye when it rains" (which it did almost daily). I appreciated the maps and the little historical notes they wrote. I would recommend this book to anyone going to The Highlands for their first - or tenth - time. .Footprint Central America and Mexico Handbook City Travel Guides > Books > Footprint Handbooks by: Peter Hutchison September 06, 2001 Having used rough guides for years we wanted to reduce the books we were carrying on our travels through mexico and central america. This is our first experience of the footprint series and we are very disappointed with it. We spent a frustrating morning in mexico city recently trying to find shops listed in the guide which proved not to be there or in the wrong street. Its understandable that places will move or close down but the sheer number of mistakes we{ve found indicates that the publishers have rushed out the 2002 edition without fully checking facts. I bought this book because it was the most recent guidebook for Brazil, and because several people referred to Footprint as "the Bible for South America." I suppose that analogy is accurate--like the Bible, this book is awkwardly worded, cryptic and useless for day-to-day logistics. But I have several more specific complaints. Open to the very first page, and you encounter a theme for the entire book: a featureless, useless map and confusing editorial errors.
