. Frommer's Cuba
City Travel Guides > Books > Guidebook Series
by: Eliot Greenspan, Neil E. Schlecht
December 15, 2006
Frommer's Cuba was my first guidebook purchase ever!! And what a great buy. I had done most of my travel research online or through word of mouth but with Frommer's, I was able to not only get detailed information of the sites of the country, I was also able to choose between several different options. I like how they categorized the different places within the book so you don't have to waste time with options that are out of your price range or out of your interest.

. Lonely Planet Mexico
City Travel Guides > Books > Guidebook Series
by: John Noble, Daniel Schechter, Suzanne Plank
September 15, 2006
years ago, lonely planet was much more interesting in that they would give you some information off the 'well travelled path'. now, they cover the well travelled path & lack passion & challenge. the book also weights over a lbs. the index system in this book is awful! for example; could not find any information of a coastal town called; Salina Cruz in Oaxaca. also, a place called Becal; where for more than a 100 years Maya Indians weave 'Panama style hats' in near by caves. I have come to the conclusion that the best way to experience Mexico is to just buy a good map & if somethings strikes your curiosty,........ just go & explore!

. Eyewitness Travel Guides France
City Travel Guides > Books > Guidebook Series
by: Dorling Kindersley
February 21, 2006
We have traveled to France the past 3 years and are in the process of planning the 4th at this writing. As always (since discovering these guides)I started with this guide to determine which part of France we will visit and the potential route. I also own the guides to Paris, Loire Valley and Provence. The Green Guides offer much more detail but are infuriatingly arranged in alphabetical order. Eyewitness guides are arranged by area and include some theme tours (wine, cheese, troglodyte, etc)This and the beautiful pictures make planning a joy. I just wish they published an area guide for Southwest France, where we are headed in 2003!!

. Lonely Planet New York City
City Travel Guides > Books > Guidebook Series
by: Beth Greenfield, Robert Reid, Ginger Adams Otis
September 15, 2006
I recently visited NYC for the first time. I took only three books about that city with me: this guide, the "Top 10 New York" guide, and "The Metropolitan Museum of Art Guide". I must say that the "Lonely planet NYC Guide" was not my favourite, though.
Truth to be told, this guide has a lot of useful information, and that proved helpful in some cases. What is more, it has some interesting planned walking tours that I liked, and good sections with data about the city and its history.
On the other hand, this guide doesn't have too many photos in color, and it includes some maps that are not specially good, particularly if you compare them with the spectacular maps of the "Top 10 New York" guide. Furthermore, it is big enough ... Read More:

. Lonely Planet Slovenia
City Travel Guides > Books > Guidebook Series
by: Steve Fallon
May 15, 2007
If this third edition of Lonely Planet Slovenia is anything like the first, it warrants a complete overhaul of the section entitled "WW II & the Partisan Struggle." Much misinformation has been disseminated since the end of that war, and only recently has the truth emerged concerning the true patriots of Slovenia. It is obvious that the author was given false and outdated information, and he therefore unwittingly perpetuates the myth of the Slovenian "collaborators."

. Eyewitness Travel Guides Chicago
City Travel Guides > Books > Guidebook Series
by: Dorling Kindersley
March 17, 2008
I used to live in Chicago, and I can tell you that had I had this book back then, I would have visited lots of places I never knew existed or didn't fully appreciate at the time. As in most DK Travel Guides, there's lots of information, photos, maps and graphs. Sure, the book is a bit outdated, but then again, IT'S A BOOK! In any case, the good people at DK keep updating their books from time to time. I do have one complaint, in the fact that this book has less than half the pages that the New York book's got. Because it's less famous it doesn't mean that Chicago is less of a great city as the big apple is...
