The Lonely Planet city guide to "Melbourne" was put together by Simone Egger and David McClymont. The guide I am reviewing is the 5th edition of the guide, so please take note that a 6th edition has been released, and it is almost always best to go with the latest edition of a travel guide.

I may update my review after my trip, but from my first reading of the guide, I found it to be fairly comprehensive. It covers the city as well as some things to do in the immediately surrounding region. Like all Lonely Planet guides, Trekking in Patagonia is very much geared to independent trekkers. Considering how huge Patagonia is, the book covers it pretty thoroughly with a wide range of suggestions, from easy short walks right up to a few week-long ones. The text is strong on practical information like local transportation and accommodation and supplies wide coverage to flora and fauna, which is a real bonus.
Patagonia's five regions are arranged in chapters that go from north to south which the way most foreigners seem to travel. The information is set out very logically, with tables of routes and a small info box at the start of each walk so you know what to expect. (This is for the 3rd edition Oct. 2003) An excellent pocket guide to Brazilian Portuguese. Good use of color and illustrations rarely seen in a foreign language dictionary. Begins with important grammar points, then covers various subjects (accommodation, shopping, etc.) and concludes with English-Portuguese dictionary (& vice-versa) in the back. The entire dictionary section has a purple color tab, making it hard to find where English-Portuguese ends and Portuguese-English begins.

My only real sore point is with the pronunciation. They seem to have forgotten this isn't Spanish!! Letter 'D' changes to something between the English "DZ" and "J" sound when followed by vowels E, I, and ÃO. In Brazilian Portuguese ... Read More:

A beautiful travel book on West Africa . It gives one a good idea of the counties, of west Africa Africa, ie their ethnic compositions, flora and fauna and physical features. Highly recommended.Also enjoyed reading The Usurper and Other Stories, Mango Elephants in the Sun, Triple Agent Double Cross,The old man and the medal,Nervous Conditions, Shake hands with the Devil, Disciples of Fortune. They gave me a better understanding and pulse of the region and Africa at large.

I found that the East Turkistan (Xinjiang) section of this book was much more helpful when I actually traveled there than the Cadogan "China: the Silk Routes" guide, which is much bigger and much lesse useful. For Uzbekistan, though, this book is useless compared to the Odyssey guide.
If you don't care to deeply know the history of the places you are visiting, then maybe this book is for you.
