. Lonely Planet Switzerland

I have been to Switzerland at least six times. Recently I sat down with my daughter who has worked at a hotel at Interlaken in Switzerland during her years in Business Administration at McGill - up to last summer - and we went over the Switzerland guides to see how they ranked, and what was currently the best guide in our humble opinions. We are not experts but have certain requirements and preferences. It helps if one can get a feel for the area in advance of a trip, and generally that is helped by good maps and color photos. So those guides do better in our review. We like to make reservations by internet and telephone and just use the Guide as a "guide". Generally it costs more to publish a book with color photos so ... . Travel with Children
City Travel Guides > Books > Lonely Planet
by: Cathy Lanigan
February 01, 2002
I'm afraid thats the impression I got, and I felt a bit duped, especially as it seemed an exciting concept. Someone (a journalist?) had some ideas, had some spare time, knew a few people who had been abroad with their children, and did some cutting and pasting! Much of the content is obvious, like bring some nappies when travelling with a baby (really!),the travel stories are strangely pedestrian ... even in the most exotic locations the stories and the people barely come to life it is so passionless, and single parents are given just a couple of pages. On the one hand it is not particularly insightful or inspirational, and on the other hand it doesn't really take account of real problems that may arise e.g. a young toddler's ... Read More:

. Lonely Planet Tramping in New Zealand: Walking Guide
City Travel Guides > Books > Lonely Planet
by: Jim DuFresne
November 15, 1998
This edition is far better than the previous editions. It's new organization and additional information sections are a marked improvement. A new section on Flora and Fauna gives a highlight of any New Zealand tramp. This book acts as an excellent reference book while tramping. Of course, if the book contained every piece of required information, (i.e. highly detailed maps and every step of the way instructions) it would require 1000's of pages. The authors surmount that difficulty by including instructions on how to obtain additional necessary information. The book is perfect for those that are looking into or planning a backpacking trek to New Zealand.
