. Guatemala Guide
City Travel Guides > Books > Open Roads
by: Paul Glassman
1994-10
Glassman's guides to the hotels is crucial to some tourists and business people, especially if you're not planning to stay in a downscale establishment and might actually expect to find a working shower, private bathroom, and a restaurant. Though many people coming to Guatemala aren't interested in upscale establishments, they do exist, and Glassman outlines them in a relatively no-nonsense fashion. For example, Pension Bonifaz in Quetzaltenango is the best hotel in town. It's is also where anyone flying in and out of Xela must go for pickup to the town airport. There are other guides, but I wouldn't dismiss Glassman's guide out of hand. We live in Quetzaltenango, and run a Spanish language school there.

. Czech & Slovak Republics Guide
City Travel Guides > Books > Open Roads
by: Ted Brewer
1996-11
After being escorted through the wilds and wilderness of Utah by Ted Brewer's guide a few years back, I made a note to look for him again on my next trip. When some friends and I went to Prague in December of last year I was pleasantly surprised to find his guide to the Czech/Slovak Republics. This guide distinguishes itself from most other guides by not containing much in the way of pictures. I was a little concerned at first, but discovered that this was actually much better, in that I didn't have any preconceived notions about what the castles and countryside was supposed to look like. Brewer brought a unique wit and insight into his Utah book, and its present here in this guide. Many books just present information, but Brewer gives ... Read More:

. Prague Guide, 2nd Edition
City Travel Guides > Books > Open Roads
by: Ted Brewer
October 21, 1999
The book covers a lot of territory, the entire United States, listing some of the wonderfull small communities found in this country. Living in New England, I think the book skipped some of the many nice small towns found in our region. I wonder how many other towns in other parts of this nation it did not mention? Nonetheless, the book is a rather good resource for those looking for intersting places to visit. I just wished it had maps, and perhaps, some pictures, to help the reader understand the places pointed out.

. Italy Guide: Be a Traveler-Not a Tourist!
City Travel Guides > Books > Open Roads
by: Doug Morris
1998-04
I planned a self guided tour of Italy this past October/November. In addition to the Open Road guide, I purchased Frommer's 2001 Italy guide book. The Open road book is very well organized and written, providing an overview of Italian history, food and culture. A suggested itinerary is provided for each major city and the recomendations contained therein are invaluable. The reviews of hotels and restaurants are accurate and reflect a range of prices and styles, with an emphasis on the off the beaten path local joints. They even have suggested dishs to order and the best rooms to request. My trip was a smashing success and I used this book for the majority of my planning.
