. Guatemala Guide
City Travel Guides > Books > Open Roads
by: Paul Glassman
1994-10
Glassman's guides to the hotels is crucial to some tourists and business people, especially if you're not planning to stay in a downscale establishment and might actually expect to find a working shower, private bathroom, and a restaurant. Though many people coming to Guatemala aren't interested in upscale establishments, they do exist, and Glassman outlines them in a relatively no-nonsense fashion. For example, Pension Bonifaz in Quetzaltenango is the best hotel in town. It's is also where anyone flying in and out of Xela must go for pickup to the town airport. There are other guides, but I wouldn't dismiss Glassman's guide out of hand. We live in Quetzaltenango, and run a Spanish language school there.

. Honduras Guide, 6th Edition
City Travel Guides > Books > Open Roads
by: J. P. Panet
June 18, 2002
My three friends and I just returned from Honduras. We each had a different guidebook. This one was by far the worst (even compared to books which covered central America in general rather than Honduras specifically). Significant problems with this book include: seemingly random selection of lodging and food choices, almost no coverage of smaller towns, inaccurate public transportation information, and no ordering to hotels and restaraunts at all (neither alphabetical or - more logically - by cost). Worst, the book is poorly written - we often had trouble figuring out just what the author meant. One particularly frustrating example arose when we tried to follow the book's directions to get to Tela (a city on the North ... Read More:

. Ireland Guide: 5th Edition
City Travel Guides > Books > Open Roads
by: Dan McQuillan
June 01, 2004
My initial interest in the book was sparked by the subtitle - Be A Traveler-Not A Tourist. I was planning our first trip to Ireland and purchased four books on the Emerald Isle. As I proceeded in my planning, I found that I did not need the other three, as I found all of the information I needed in Mr. McQuillan's book. He provides extensive information about Ireland in general, its history, accomodations, well known and little known tourist sites and places of interest, even directions on how to proceed from one area to another whether it be by bike, bus or car. The book is very well written and easy to understand. I made all of our plans for accomodations and travel based on Mr. McQuillan's recommendations and we had an absolutely wonderful ... Read More:
