Like all other Rick Steves books I've ever used, this book is a good investment if you're interested in a solid, readable, down-to-earth tourist's look at a place. This book provides excellent practical orientation and general how-to-get-by instructions (transit, tipping, etc), and I value Rick Steves for giving his opinion on what things are worth seeing and what things aren't -- if you're on a short vacation, this kind of editorializing is, to my mind, invaluable.

Rick Steves' London is great for planning the sightseeing part of a London vacation, and if you're not interested in much else, then you're all set. However, if you're interested in food and nightlife, or need more extensive lodging listings, I strongly recommend picking ... Read More:

Rick provides some of the best information about the cities he visits. The books are worth the price for the trivia alone. Whether you've already been to Europe or you're planning to go, these books are for you. In fact, the London book is so spectacular that even if you're not planning a trip to England, you should buy the book. It's full of interesting information and is its own time capsule of British history and culture.

I'd just like to make a comment and correct some assumptions made by other reviewers. His statement about America bringing "peace, prosperity, and democracy" to Iraq under the "benevolent" guidance of Bush is sarcastic. If you look on his webpage, you will see several political essays by Rick Steves, and find out that he is very much against the war in Iraq, and also very much a liberal. That being said, I did not really notice any overly-liberal comments in the book. That was the only political comment I read, in fact - and I was just as shocked as previous readers until I decided to do some Google searching on Steves's political opinions. He does joke around a bit.
