Like all other Rick Steves books I've ever used, this book is a good investment if you're interested in a solid, readable, down-to-earth tourist's look at a place. This book provides excellent practical orientation and general how-to-get-by instructions (transit, tipping, etc), and I value Rick Steves for giving his opinion on what things are worth seeing and what things aren't -- if you're on a short vacation, this kind of editorializing is, to my mind, invaluable.

Rick Steves' London is great for planning the sightseeing part of a London vacation, and if you're not interested in much else, then you're all set. However, if you're interested in food and nightlife, or need more extensive lodging listings, I strongly recommend picking ... Read More:

I used this guide for a four day trip to prague - and a day trip outside of prague.

I enjoyed Rick's casual writing style and his philosophy behind traveling. What I expected was an opinionated guide that clearly told me what to see and what to steer clear of. Instead I found it was fairly typical (vs. lonely planet or rough guide) - with some side notes that were helpful (quick walking tour of prague castle). However I found that the opinionated advice and diamonds in the rough were few and far between - and did not cover some coverage gaps. Two examples:
a) Vyshmod castle in prague - on a top 20 list of things to see in Prague (let's go guide) but not even covered in the RS guide - no mention of why not to see it - and no details about it - based ... Read More:

As mentioned, this is a small volume and gives a good overview of Ireland for the first time visitor. Check it out, but don't rely on it totally. We didn't use any of his B&B recommendations. Two restaurants he recommended in Ennis were no longer in business. The way he continually pats himself on the back for his superior knowledge of Ireland and the locals becomes very distracting. He fails to convey the extreme difficulty of navigating rural roads in Ireland.

Rick Steves gives no-nonsense advice on the things you really need to see. He's a little more enthusiastic than warranted when it comes to Brussels (blecch!), but his other recommendations are spot on. We used this book so often on our Low Countries trip that we started referring to it as "the Bible." One caveat: expect to see other Rick Steves-toting tourists wherever you go.

My boyfriend James and I just got back from Britain. We took this guide with us and were very disappointed with it. Mr. Steves claims that the information in his guide is updated yearly. Which information, I wonder? We initially used the guide to choose B&Bs, and the prices listed were consistently lower than the actual prices. One could assume that all the B&Bs coincidentally raised their prices after the 2005 edition went to press. Except that one of our hosts told me, "We haven't heard from Rick Steves or his representative in a few years." I can only assume that this statement in the introduction, "I guarantee you're using the most up-to-date information available in print," is nothing more than a marketing ploy.

Really good book! I took it on my 2 week trip through Denmark, Sweden and Norway this past summer. Although I didn't follow the trip that Steve lays out exactly- this book was nonetheless irrepaceable.
Highlights:
Mountain biking in Flam, Norway
The island of Aero- Denmark
Copenhagen tour, places to eat, etc.
I would definitely recommend this for the traveler who doesn't want to spend a lot of money on the trip, but when they do, they want to make sure it's worth it. This book does a great job with very good write ups about all aspects of a city.
