This is a good book that covers every part of the coast, not just the barrier islands. I liked the historical and cultural background presented on each area. I expected there to be a great deal of information on the local flora and fauna since it is a Sierra Club book, and there was. It provides a wonderful listing of birds and animals to keep your eyes out for. There are also good explanations of the geology behind the coast in the introduction. I would have liked a little more information about each area (there is no info on lodging, food, etc.) and some of it was outdated. .Sierra Club: Adventuring in Belize: the Sc Travel Guide to the Islands, Waters & Inland Parks of Central America's Tropical Paradise City Travel Guides > Books > Sierra Club by: Eric Hoffman March 29, 1994 This was a different kind of guide book in a good way. It gave a nice history of the area and gave information to not only the usual tourist places but "off the beaten track" activities that we actually did in Belize.....and had a great time. There are very good descriptions of the different parks and the native people of the region. .Sierra Club: Adventuring in New Zealand: the Sierra Club Travel Guide to the Pearl of the Pacific City Travel Guides > Books > Sierra Club by: Margaret Jefferies September 21, 1993 My partner and I found "Adventuring..." the single most useful guide for our visit to New Zealand in January 2003. I disagree with the prior negative customer review and wonder if M. Goldstein actually used this book for travel to New Zealand or was merely an armchair traveler seeking amusement. It's true this isn't the kind of general guidebook so ably done by Lonely Planet and others. Jefferies doesn't refer the reader to specific restaurants or lodgings. What she does superbly is to introduce each region of the country with a detailed essay on its flora, fauna, terrain and history. Her knowledge of New Zealand's parklands runs much deeper than a conventional guidebook. While not neglecting famous tourist ... .Sierra Club: Baikal: Sacred Sea of Siberia City Travel Guides > Books > Sierra Club by: Peter Matthiessen April 25, 1995 The hardcover book is a jewel: the pictures are absolutely beautiful, and the texts which accompany them is interesting. The excerpts from Valentin Rasputin's books on Lake Baikal are well chosen. It is extremely interesting to "meet" this controversial Russian author in the way we do through this book. He deserves praise for his environmental work, especially in such a country as Russia. The book definetely makes you wish to visit the place.
