.A Traveler's Guide to the Galapagos Islands City Travel Guides > Books > South America by: Barry Boyce, Elaine Heron, Kathleen Neault 1994-04 Written by the owner of the tour company we decided to go with, I had ordered of copy of this from an Internet bookstore, only to find that we were to receive a free copy with our trip deposit. The extra went to Jill's mom, who travels vicariously with us when she and Bob aren't gallivanting about on their own. If you can only get one book for your trip to the Galapagos, this is the most comprehensive, covering booking a tour; the history, geology, botany, zoology of the islands; and photographing flora, fauna and landscape, all written in a light, humorous style. .Searching for El Dorado: A Journey into the South American Rainforest on the Tail of the World's Largest Gold Rush City Travel Guides > Books > South America by: Marc Herman February 18, 2003 I was puzzled when my friend gave me a copy of this book; had I ever expressed an interest in gold or indeed in South America? The mystery was solved when my gaze rested on the author's name, an old university friend. Not knowing much about Marc's politics or his writing style, I was a afraid that the book would be some tirade against big business and globalization. Refreshingly, I discovered an engaging search for answers in a country that seems to only have questions. The book is interesting, provocative, and well-balanced journalism. But even better then that is Marc's humorous description of his own journey, his adventures, and his eye for details. I am not sure I reccomend traveling "Marc-style" but I sure do enjoy the product ... .In Trouble Again: A Journey Between the Orinoco and the Amazon City Travel Guides > Books > South America by: Redmond O'Hanlon 1989-01 O'Hanlon is an academic, really; the natural history editor of the Times Literary Supplement and a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. Furthermore, he claims to look like Benny Hill, a claim borne out by his book-jacket photographs. He is, therefore, an entirely unlikely candidate for the outrageous adventures he gets himself into while traveling. I have read a handful of his accounts, and they are all completely mad. But I have to conclude that this is the best of the lot. Briefly, this is the account of his travels through Amazonia, in a small wooden boat, ultimately to the homelands of the Yanomami (the "Fierce People" in Napoleon Chagnon's memorable phrase).
