City Travel Guides > Books > South America
by: Karen Leitch

September 30, 1990
South America is home to many of the world's most spectacular natural wonders. These include Angel Falls, the world's highest waterfall; Iguassu Falls, one of the world's largest waterfalls; the world's largest river, the Amazon; and the Patagonian Icecap, the largest in the world outside Greenland or Antarctica. All of these magnificent features and a host of others are covered in the text of this book. Especially noteworthy as well are the Andean parks, such as Mount Fitzroy, Torres del Paine, both awesome mountain ranges, and Machu Picchu, the lost city of the Incas, discovered by Hiram Bingham in 1911.

This book addresses various national parks in South America's nations, including the parks that encompass the foregoing marvels. ... Read More:

City Travel Guides Discounted Books : Southern Cross to Pole Star: Tschiffely's Ride
.Southern Cross to Pole Star: Tschiffely's Ride
City Travel Guides > Books > South America
by: Aime Felix Tschiffely

1983-09
This is a most incredible story about Aime Tschiffley and his 2 criollo horse, Mancha and Gato, who in 1925, walked/rode from Argentina all the way to Washington, DC. The journey carried them 10,000 miles in 2-1/2 years across the most inhospitable and remote regions one can imagine. They endured heat and cold, sickness and hunger, climbed the Andes and walked the depths of the rain forests. In the end, they were welcomed as heros everywhere they went. Tschiffley even met with the President in the oval office and spoke before the National Geographic Society. The most heart-warming part of this improbable tale is the bond between man and horse. It's sad at times, as when Mancha was struck by a car, and comedic at times, as when Mancha bucked his ... Read More:

City Travel Guides Discounted Books : The Spanish Seaborne Empire
.The Spanish Seaborne Empire
City Travel Guides > Books > South America
by: J.H. Parry

1940-06
I had to read this book for a class regarding History of Latin America, and I found it to be both interesting and helpful. I read it quite quickly, and afterwards I decided to buy it (I had borrowed it from a friend).

Parry explains how the "Americas" were colonized by Spain, and what happened in the "New World" from the XVth to the XIXth century. The task is difficult, but he pulls it off incredibly well. The reader learns, but also enjoys reading "The Spanish Seaborne Empire", probably because J. H. Parry manages to make histoy appealing. In my opinion, that is the trademark of really good historians.

The book includes several illustrations and maps, and it is organized in five parts. Part I is ... Read More:
