For those familiar with the Whitehorse Press series, this one fills in a long needed gap. The books on New England and the Southwest have been around for years, and are on the bookshelves of many motorcycle tourers. Ballentine is obviously well-travelled through the Rockies. He has excellent suggestions for itineraries, stopovers, and roads which must be ridden. If you are considering a trip in this region (and if you aren't, you should be), this book is well worth it.

Once again, Sid Marty has produced another 'must read' about the beautiful Canadain Rockies. His first book "Men for the mountains" is still a classic adventure and environmental tale about the Rocky Mountain Parks, with this as it's somewhat continuation. It differs however in that it reads as more of a climbing/historical acount of the pioneers of the Lake Louise, Banff and Jasper areas rather than of the park system and how it is managed and sometimes mismanaged. For an Albertan and a frequent visitor of the Rocky mountain park system, this was a great book in that the names of the places I visit now have greater significance and meaning.

We toured the Big Island for three weeks beginning November 1. This was a good time to go and we found ourselves alone at many of the places recommended by this guide. The drivng instructions were very clear and we had no problems finding all their hideaway beaches and favorite hiking trails.

If you're looking to economize and make the best use of your time, take these authors' advice and follow their maps. We scoped all the guides before going and this one definitely concentrates on activities more than all the others.

This is an amazing book written by a couple who are truly commited to the preservation of BC's remaining, but threatened coastal rainforest. The format that the story is presented in makes the book all the more interesting and original and the pictures are uncomparable to anything else. Highly reccommended!

Could have been written better I think. I had to re-read some sentances a few times to understand them. Sometimes I had to back read just to figure out what she was talking about. Maybe I'm just stupid. The places she visits are interesting. Sometimes while reading the book I got in a fetal position and quivered while thinking about how little she knew about sailing before taking off into the ocean. I imagin by the time she got home from her circumnavigation she had learned enough, and gained enough sailing experience to start her circumnavigation. all in all it was worth the read and entertaining. But I would reccomend "Confessions of a Long Distance Sailor" by Paul lutus instead of this book. its written far better, has just as many ... Read More:

I got this book to read some diving adventures, and stories. The book is more about the stories of a Diving Instructor in many places in the world, rather than Underwater. It is written in a way that is very easy to read and has a lot of fun in it.
Despite what I have expected, it is very good book to read, if you want to travel around the world. You can learn about places that you'll never be there in a way that not any tourist guide can do it. Everything in this book is personal opinions.

This book has a good amount (it's not War and Peace) of recipes that are tasty and easy for backpacking! Also a chapter or two of good advice concerning food in general...how to pack it, what kinds of things work, making your own dried foods, etc. Each meal has a chapter, like Breakfast, Lunch, whatever...there are no-cook things, all the way to fresh baked bread on the trail and pizza. Yum! (well no I haven't done the pizza or bread but I'm going to try it since they sound so good! And easy too)
