This piano-led trio have carved out a space somewhere between the thoughtful European jazz of Keith Jarrett and the atmospheric textures of Sigur Rós or Radiohead.
Their last album sold many thousands copies and they fill the major concert halls in Europe.
This is their 10th album, and the major influence is Bach, most noticeably in the mathematical purity of tracks such as Beggar's Blanket.

From the opening classical piano pattern disrupted by a guitar power chord, "Tuesday Wonderland" avoids the usual melody-improvisation-melody structure beloved of most jazz bands.
It may be too introverted for some, but E.S.T. balance this with expressive solos to make their most accomplished record yet.

I had previously seen and purchased the Live in Dublin DVD, and was looking to expand my "collection". Some of the comments posted here made me think twice about this selection, especially regarding the video quality.
Eventhough the video is not the best, I found the program to be excellent, and in fact watched it 3 times when I first got it! The poor video quality and constant angle changes mentioned by other reviewers was not really a detriment in my opinion, because the program is otherwise very enjoyable. The extended encores are especially enjoyable, where the orchestra diverts from classical music to popular songs from around the globe, and has the crowd literally dancing in the aisles.

By happy coincidence, this CD was my introduction to Gregorian Chant and while I have since listened to many more, this disc is clearly the best. Right from the opening Dominus Regnavit and Laudate Dominum, the listener is caught up in what seems to be a swelling wave of deeply felt emotion, all the more impactful for the pure voices. Follows in due course the majestic old Credo and lastly for the moving finale, the Lamentation of the Prophet Jeremiah. Sung with tremendous control and feeling by the monks of the Abbey of Santo Domingo, the sound quality and the depth of the individual voices is amazing. This line of CD's is exceptional. This one ranks a little lower than the others. While my children are entertained by it, I found the story less engaging. In addition, Alex, the boy protagonist, has a tendency to be rude. It certainly doesn't fall into the usual bratty kid category that afflicts so much of current children's fare, but I was disappointed considering the other CDs are outstanding in all respects.

The music is presented in manageable chunks, and everyone will recognize most of the themes/pieces. My five year old loves the excitement of the train ride and the chase scene.

It is definitely worth having in your collection, but if you're only going to buy one, try one of the others first.
