. Persuasion
starring: Anthony Head, Alice Krige, Marion Bailey, Peter Wight, Rupert Penry-Jonesdirected by: Adrian Shergold
January 15, 2008
I was very excited about this video when it came out and was extremely disappointed, even though the hero was a very handsome one. Too short, difficult to follow, bizarre filming and bland costumes. If you are a true Austen fan, watch the older version, you will love every minute!

. Children of Dune [2 Discs]
starring: Steven Berkoff, Alice Krige, Ian McNeice, P.H. Moriarty, Susan Sarandondirected by: Greg Yaitanes
May 20, 2003
When I rented and watched the first Dune miniseries, I was shocked at how poor a job had been done. True, the story was kept pretty much intact, but the costumes were horrible, the acting wasn't credible, and the sets were even less credible. Most of the time, you could easily tell that the backdrop was a wall painted to look like dunes and mountains. This time, however, the makers got it right. First, everybody who returns for this second mini-series must have gotten acting lesson in between the two. I was shocked at how good some of the performances were (Paul and Irulan for example). Second, some of the special effects are truly impressive. Throughout most of the miniseries, I could believe that this was a very respectable theatrical release ... Read More:

. Reign of Fire (Widescreen)
starring: Christian Bale, Alice Krige, David Kennedy, Izabella Scorupco, Matthew McConaugheydirected by: Rob Bowman
January 25, 2005
I watched this movie thinking it would be about dragons destroying cities, eating people and fighting armies. Sure not the greatest plot but fun and has lots of dragon action. But that was not what I got.
Bad things: The plot was awful. Just when you think it was going to get good [huge dragon comes out of the ground] it skips to like 20 years later. When you think you'll see dragons flying around cities and destroying them and instead you get people sitting around in ruins in a chard landscape you'd be disappointed to. And also from that part on you just get like 3 parts with dragons in them. Boring.
Good things: The dragons were cool! They looked very well done and were some of the best movie dragons I've seen. I think that the dragons didn't look ... Read More:

. A Tale of Two Cities
starring: Peter Cushing, Nigel Hawthorne, Alice Krige, Kenneth More, Flora Robsondirected by: Jim Goddard
November 13, 2007
. . .it was a good watch anyway. Chris Sarandon was outstanding in the roles he played of look-alikes Charles Darnay and Sydney Carton. He captured Carton's sardonic humor well, and evoked his melancholic fatalism and innate dignity with much pathos. A quite elderly Kenneth More put on a great performance as the officious but kindly banker, whose character provided much humorous dialogue. The character of Miss Pross, the sharp-eyed chaperone, was absolutely wonderful. I never expect a movie to follow a novel very closely -- books and films are two completely different art forms and cannot be translated one to the other with good effect. As the movie begins we see the words "Based on the novel by Charles Dickens." With those words we are given fair warning that ... Read More:

. Chariots of Fire (Full Screen)
starring: Ben Cross, Ian Charleson, Nigel Havers, Nicholas Farrell, Ian Holmdirected by: Hugh Hudson
August 22, 1997
I was expecting a lot out of this movie based on reviews, I bought a bunch of movies for those long winter days on the trainer (indoor cycling). I thought I was going to enjoy a good sports movie to keep me motivated while spinning on my indoor trainer. After roughly 20 minutes I felt like stoping it and changing the movie but I figured I paid for the movie might as well watch it.
I watched a few movies that were absolutely worth watching such as Steve Pre fontaine "Without Limits".
Some movies really get to you, they reach out to you and simply inspires you so much or gives you energy and just makes you feel like you want to race or beat the hell out of someone (in a boxing ring) such as Rocky movies.. This one certainly didn't have that effect.
Another English movie ... Read More:

. King David
starring: Jean-Marc Barr, Gina Bellman, Niall Buggy, John Castle, David de Keyserdirected by: Bruce Beresford
November 18, 2003
When this film was released in 1985, the critics were not kind, but I love this film, and think it's a good telling of the story of David, based on I and II Samuel, I Chronicles, and the Psalms. Though much of it has been compressed (David's relationship with Bathsheba is limited mostly to the consequences of it for instance) and some creative license used for plot continuity, it has a tremendous amount of Biblical accuracy. Taking place from 1000 to 961 B.C., the costuming, sets, and artifacts are fabulous; filmed in Pinewood Studios, U.K., and on location in Italy, the cinematography by Donald McAlpine is wonderful. The score is also lovely, by Carl Davis. The brief nudity in the wedding chamber sequence has in my tape, been darkened so as to be imperceptible; either this is a flaw ... Read More:
