The first reviewer was right; not a lot of bang for the buck. It's more of a sappy love story the further the plot progresses. Not to mention that the DVD itself comes in a cardboard case, rather than a traditional plastic one, allowing for the inevitable bends and creases due to standard delivery practices. As a lover of Futurama, I HAD to get this to add to my collection, but, in the future, I hope they try to focus more on the comedy.

This is a GREAT movie! The special effects are excellent, the monster are awesome, the sets are great, the cast is great; production values incredible. Buy it!

this movie is pretty bad.i haven't been this bored in a long time.Alec
Baldwin must have been into the sauce when he agreed to do this
thing.it's marketed as a kid's movie with a PG rating,but this really
isn't a kid's movie.there is some very adult language implied.yet it is
not a movie for adults either,because it is so juvenile.so,really this
movie is not suitable for anyone.By the way,Mike Meyers looks like a
complete idiot as the cat.this movie doesn't strike me as being very
faithful to the spirit of the children's book by Dr.Seuss. the only
other thing i can say about this movie is it is
colourful.otherwise,there is no good reason for anyone to watch this
movie.a weak 0/5

While critics (and audiences) were somewhat lukewarm in their response to this film when it was first released, I enjoyed it. Although it's a "black comedy", it never veers too far into total comedy or total darkness. DeVito's narration helps to hold the film together and keeps it from degenerating into a series of mind-numbing retaliations. The film is visually appealing, with interesting camera angles and a solid sense of composition that is often lacking in comedies. The movie has held up well and does not appear as dated as many films from the same time.

Douglas plays his role of a rather self-important and arrogant know-it-all quite well, and Turner is equally convincing as she exhibits growing distaste for him.

Grown man. Don't care about the plot or the humour, some of which is good. Seen all the series. THIS IS IT. If you like dogs you will go nuts for this movie.

I have not seen the Cary Grant version so I had little to compare this predictable chickflick with. In fact the first 40 minutes or so can pretty much be skipped. I'd say the film even starts when Katherine Hepburn appears on the scene. She lends the movie its spine, the very reason our two protagonists come together, and the movie is a very decent romantic story from then on, with an occasional tinge of humor. Benning in particular is stunning with her understated rendition of a woman in emotional doldrums. A worthy rental overall, but not exactly a spectacular movie.

Another scandal-free TV movie comes to DVD. As a big fan of the original series in all it's jumping-up-&-down(literally)glory, I waited with high hopes to view this promising "behind-the-screens" biopic. I figured they had to go one of two ways - camp or scandal. Well, they didn't do either. This is just a brief history that glosses over everything in 10 seconds flat. NOT A CAT-FIGHT ANYWHERE. Darn it. This was a non-sensational movie about a very sensational(at the time)TV show. Someone missed the point here. It could have been SO much more. I've watched this movie dozens of times, and was overjoyed to find it on DVD at last. This was (I believe) The Great One Jackie Gleason's final screen performance, and it showed the way of the future for Tom Hanks. Sela Ward also appears as a love interest, along with Hector Elizondo as his boss, and Eva Marie Saint as Hanks' mom.

The only thing that gets on my nerves just a little is the soundtrack. I think it's Christopher Cross, surely one of the most annoying alleged musicians ever to hit the big time.

The transfer to disk is good. The cast is excellent. The plot makes sense, and the script is near perfect. The story is about the relationship between Tom Hanks' character, David Basner, and his father, Max Basner. Its a wonder that anyone ... Read More:
