. Merry Christmas
City Travel Guides > Music > Classic Vocalists
by: Bing Crosby
August 18, 2008
Bing was an eclectic singer who dabbled extensively in many genres of music: Hawaiian, Irish, cowboy songs and of course, Christmas music, which is showcased here. This is an excellent introduction for those who don't have other Crosby CD's in your collection or who want to hear his "holiday" side. It contains his standard hits which have been recycled time and again on other anthologies. Most Bing-ologists will have all these songs in their collection, some of them many times over. But if you are new to Crosby, this is an acceptable choice and I guarantee that you will become hooked on Bing's magnificent voice. It's quite weak on his earlier work and it does contain some curious omissions, but then again, Bing didn't sing Christmas ... Read More:

. Snowfall Christmas Album
City Travel Guides > Music > Classic Vocalists
by: Tony Bennett
August 11, 2000
I know, I know--it's heresy. Let me say first that I am a big Tony Bennett fan. The arrangements are out on the jazzy end of the scale, and if that is what you are looking for, you'll probably be happy. I like Christmas songs, even those done by jazz greats, done a bit more traditionally than this--hence, my disappointment. In addition, I didn't think Tony's voice sounded at its best on the recordings. To give you an idea of jazz Christmas recordings I like, I would HIGHLY recommend two: "An Oscar Peterson Christmas" (1995) and "Silent Nights, A Christmas Jazz Album" by Chet Baker and Christopher Mason (1986).

. A Perry Como Christmas
City Travel Guides > Music > Classic Vocalists
by: Perry Como
September 25, 2001
I was looking for a Perry Como album after listening to his contributions on the Time-Life Christmas series and wanting to hear more. His voice seems absolutely made for Christmas music, and there is much here to delight you. The 10 minute story of Christmas is very interesting and moving as is his rendition of Ave Maria. He also has several lighter numbers, Santa Claus is Coming to Town in particular is an excellent example of music from a different genre. I highly recommend this CD, but with one word of caution. There are a number of songs that are not Christmas songs, and it has gotten to the point that I just skip past them (a nice part about CD's!). Some of them are forgivable - Turn Around and Bells of St. Mary's both work just fine, but Father ... Read More:
