Singable Songs for the Very Young was originally released in 1976. I was born two years after that, and this album (cassette tape actually) was a staple in my family. I can remember my younger sisters and I belting out "Must be Santa" or "Mr Sun." in the back of the car on long trips.

We also had the record for "Corner Grocery Store" and I can clearly remember dancing around the living room and singing along with my sisters to the silly songs on that album.

Wanting to share these songs with my own children, I got Singable Songs for my two year old son. As it turns out, he loves the songs too and we have a lot of fun together singing and dancing. His favourite song is "Bumping Up and Down in my Little Red Wagon."

If you really want something for your children (2-7 y.o.) then I would look elsewhere (anything by Raffi for example). There are too many styles and tempos on this CD to hold my children's attention - from lullabies (Rainbow Connection) to the albeit fun but completely meaningless (Mahna Mahna).

Most of the songs seem like a middle-aged rocker's version of what a children's song should sound like. Which may please the parent, but is not so much fun for my children aged 3 and 6. I would not recommend this CD to anyone who wants to buy music for their kids.

This CD is my favorite Raffi CD ever. Baby Beluga and Joshua Giraffe are both FANTASTIC!! My 4-year-old son loves them and asks to hear them over and over. These songs are full length, unlike a lot of Raffi music. I can't say enough about this CD.

I have recently purchased the CD of One Elephant, Deux Elephants as the tape I have had for almost 20 years is wearing out. My two-year-old son adores these songs and we listen to it repeatedly.

Over the years, these songs have either become classics (Skinnamarink) or are traditional childhood songs (She'll be Comin' Round the Mountain; Twinkle, Twinkle; Tingalayo). Thus, the album continues to appeal to young audiences. Sharon, Lois, and Bram are fabulous musicians and present the songs in interesting ways while allowing their own personalities to shine through. It is amazing to me that this trio recorded this album shortly after they met (and on borrowed money)... and it quickly became a Canadian children's favourite and rocketed them to fame.

I listen to it often, it's very soothing and relaxing. I even took it on an international flight! Awesome music...buy it!!

Though she is too young to understand the words, the music does an excellent job of getting her attention. She will actually stop playing with her toys and listen for a while when I put it on. I remember most of these songs from when I was a kid and the joy of singing along to them hasn't faded at all over the years. In fact, my daughter gets the most enjoyment out of being an audience member for these mommy sing-a-longs. While I am more than happy to entertain her, I am very much looking forward to the day these performances become duets.
