June 03, 2008
Over the years, there have only been a small handful of bands that have released three consecutive #1 albums; Van Halen, Metallica and U2 to name a few. Disturbed is part of that group. This disc is the band's follow up to "Ten Thousand Fists" and there's no danger of their winning streak being broken any time soon as this is lucky number 3 for the band. When the band released their first CD, "The Sickness", in 2000, they were lumped in with a batch of other new bands at the time under the 'Nu Metal' tag but that label really didn't fit this band as Disturbed stood apart from that crowd with more melodic songs and David Draiman's unique vocal prowess and trademark grunts. Within a few years the band rose to the top of the hard rock mountain, ... Read More:

. Genesis - When In Rome: Live 2007
City Travel Guides > Music > Music
starring: Genesis
June 10, 2008
In this DVD Genesis plays before a large crowd in Rome during their 2007 European "selection of" shows or concerts tour, as Phil Collins puts it in the documentary. Fans of the band's music will really love the concert; the sound and visual qualities of the concert footage are excellent. The songs really sound very much like the recorded versions, except for perhaps Throwing It All Away which deviated a bit from the guitar riff in the recorded version at the beginning. There really was an incredible display of musical talent when one considers the length of some of these songs with all of the various changes in tempo and melody throughout individual songs. Genesis is a great band. Phil Collins is an exceptional singer; unlike many other male ... Read More:

. For Emma Forever Ago
City Travel Guides > Music > Music
by: Bon Iver
February 19, 2008
The biographical details behind the creation of an album shouldn't matter when it comes to a listener's enjoyment, but For Emma, Forever Ago, Justin Vernon's debut as Bon Iver, exudes such a strong sense of loneliness and remoteness that you might infer some tragedy behind it. So, to skirt the rumor mill, here are the particulars, as much or as little as they might apply: In 2005, Vernon's former band DeYarmond Edison moved from Eau Claire, Wisconsin, to North Carolina. As the band developed and matured in its new home, the members' artistic interests diverged and eventually the group disbanded. While his bandmates formed Megafaun, Vernon-- who had worked with the Rosebuds and Ticonderoga-- returned to Wisconsin, where he sequestered himself ... Read More:

. Come Away with Me
City Travel Guides > Music > Music
by: Norah Jones
February 26, 2002
Its not-quite-jazz, not-quite-blues but I loved it. Nora Jones is a rare and gifted talent that only comes along once in while. Her voice is so sultry and sophisticated that I thought I was listening to a much older artist. Every song on her album invites you into the world of her soulful music for a listening experience that made me play the songs over and over. Excellent CD. You'll get lost in the music.
