After Win95, Microsoft usually alternates the success of its operating systems. Win98SE were a huge leap forward, WindowsNT/2000 irrelevant, WindowsME/Millenium a flop, WinXP a success again. I guess it was the turn of another failure.

Even when WinXP came out I refused to abandon my reliable Win98SE until SP2 was released and WinXP finally became an operating system (from the experimental eye-candy it first was). Experts advise us to do the same with WinVISTA - yet I do not think this is ever gonna happen...

Got Vista Home Basic for my daughter's PC and my experience with it has been mixed. From the outset, the 512MB my daughter's PC was equipped with was nowhere near enough. Upgrading to 2GB is a must and got it performing how it should. Installing a Vista-compatible wireless network card was an exercise in frustration - using the Microsoft/Marvel reference drivers was a no go. I eventually bought a D-Link card as they support their own Vista drivers and don't use the reference ones. All in all, not a good start.
On the plus side, the family safety features and integration with Live OneCare are fantastic and the best thing to be added to the OS over XP, in my opinion. Sure you can get add-ons for XP to do the job, but they aren't as complete. ... Read More:

I have Vista in both my desktop (which was purchased shortly after Vista's release) and my new lap top. Now I haven't had quite the problem with my desktop that some have, but I've had some.

But I thought that after a year, at least some of the problems would have been fixed. No. In fact my laptop is worse than the desktop. I've had my computer for less than 72 hours and have had significant problems. I've had 5 freezes that forced me to restart, it's lost several files already. One time it will acknolage my UBS flash drive, but not the next. The same problem with my CD/DVD drive. I've had several temporary freezes that managed to fix themselves.
In short, it's convinced me to save my money and buy a Mac. There's no way I'm going ... Read More:
