.Operation Pacific starring: John Wayne, Patricia Neal, Ward Bond, Scott Forbes (II), Philip Carey directed by: George Waggner April 28, 1998 Since I grew up with this movie, I have seen it at least 30 times. This is one of the best Submarine Movies of WW-II action made. And not everyone knows this but this movie did deal with some truth. When the skipper is shot by a "Q" ship in a surface attack, he uses the command "Take Her Down" which was in actuality used by the CO of the USS Growler, after being critically wounded in action in 1942. And the torpedo trouble in the movie was also true and they did drop warheads from on high to test out various firing options. One submarine mentioned in the Movie was the Corvina, which really was a USN Sub, and she was suck by a Japanese Submarine like the movie portrays. .Snake Eater II: The Drug Buster starring: Lorenzo Lamas, Michele Scarabelli, Larry B. Scott, Harvey Aitken, Jack Blum directed by: George Erschbamer January 01, 1998 Snakeeater 2, a.k.a. "Snake Eater 2" varies wildly from the original Snakeeater movie that allowed Lorenzo Lamas to step out of the giant shadow cast by his father, the late, great Fernando (insert Abba joke here). Lamas is back as Soldier, with a LAST NAME this time, so now he's called Soldier Kelly. Seems Soldier is so gosh-darned crazy and in-your face (again) to his wimpy cop bosses (this was filmed in Canada, remember) that he ends up with the choice of either jail-time or an insane asylum for his ways. CAN'T YOU JUST ACCEPT HIM FOR WHO HE IS??? Anyway, Soldier ends up at the local nut-house, populated by some colorful characters who all just happen to be bad actors. Drama aside, the film is not what one might expect from the directorial giant likes of John Ford. James Cagney is a bit over the hill to be believable as Capt. Flagg, a stoic commander of a motley troupe of conscripts. Flagg's ill at ease postulating does not bode well with his men, so he turns to disrespectful and disreputable Sgt. .Awful Truth, the starring: Irene Dunne, Cary Grant, Ralph Bellamy, Alexander D'Arcy, Cecil Cunningham directed by: Leo McCarey January 05, 1999 One of several tremendously fun screwball comedies Grant made in the relatively early part of his career. In actuality, he had already been in nearly 30 movies before he made this one. In 1932, his debut year, he was in seven movies. He was in six in '33 and so on. I guess the idea was to be in as many movies as possible in hopes something would get noticed. Also, under the studio system, inexperienced or not particularly in demand actors were at the studio's mercy and the studio could work them to death if they felt like it. Only fame gave an actor enough power to call his own shots. That Grant was paired with Dunne is a happy coincidence. Their timing and chemistry are perfect. Talent makes all the difference.
