. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
City Travel Guides > VHS > Classics
starring: Peter R. Hunt, George Lazenby, Diana Rigg, Telly Savalas, Gabriele Ferzettidirected by: Peter R. Hunt
August 14, 2001
The most underrated movie in the biggest film franchise of all time,OHMSS is highly regarded by 007 movie fans as the best movie. One of the reasons it hasn't topped Goldfinger ,due to the fact James Bond was not portrayed by Sean Connery, but an Australian model in his first acting job. George Lazenby took on the role of 007 when Connery exited after You Only Live Twice (1967).Although lacking Connery's charisma (like the later Bond actors), Lazenby was a superb choice and did a wonderful job despite filling some big shoes. But what really makes this movie so great is the story itself.Based from one of Ian Fleming's last Bond novels,It deals with Bond taking a leave from MI6 to track down Ernst Stavro Blofeld (Telly Savales). He ... This all time classic Walt Disney film, will get your heart pumping with feelings of joy and love. It will show you that love can be found in unexpected places. This fairly tale takes place a long time ago. Belle¢s father, an inventor, was on his way to a fair, but took a wrong turn and ended up at a castle. When he doesn¢t return home, Belle sets off to look for him, and in turn becomes a prisoner in the ferocious beast¢ castle, where it¢s filled with talking furniture, who in the end turn back into there human form. Now Belle no longer has to look into books for an adventure, for she is on one of her own. As the two spend many days and nights together, Belle shows the beast how to love. This amazing ... . Task Force
City Travel Guides > VHS > Classics
starring: Gary Cooper, Jane Wyatt, Wayne Morris, Walter Brennan, Julie Londondirected by: Delmer Daves
September 01, 1998
This is one of the better historical films made about the war in the Pacific. and the 'thirties and 'forties aviation navy. I was in naval aviation near the time this was written about, and know the aircraft depicted. The depictions are accurate; one of the rare movies not to throw in the wrong airplane in a battle scene. Like many other similar films about that period (Midway, Pearl Harbor, Tora, Tora, Tora, etc.) using U.S. Navy film footage from the color documentary, filmed aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise, The Fightin Lady, the footage shown was appropriate for the type of aircraft shown, including my favorite naval fighter of all time, the F6F "Hellcat" Grumman fighter which is credited with shooting down nearly eighty percent of all ... . High Noon
City Travel Guides > VHS > Classics
starring: Gary Cooper, Thomas Mitchell, Lloyd Bridges, Katy Jurado, Grace Kellydirected by: Fred Zinnemann
February 22, 2000
This is probably one of the greatest, if not THE greatest western ever made. For some reason, when the name is mentioned, people always think John Wayne starred in this spectacular film. Not so. Gary Cooper, who was perfectly suited for the role, is a model actor who gets beneath the surface of the character to give us a multi-faceted sherrif.
Now, while most B-westerns (and this is not one) lack for plot, "High Noon" does not. It's right up there with "Western Union" and "Red River" as far as this is concerned and you'll find yourself appaled at how fickle human beings can be, especially in a time of crisis.
For me, this movie was really symbolic of desertion in many forms. One word, it is not an uplifting movie. I was blow away the first time I saw this ... Read More:

. Oliver
City Travel Guides > VHS > Classics
starring: Ron Moody, Shani Wallis, Oliver Reed, Harry Secombe, Mark Lesterdirected by: Carol Reed
March 13, 2001
Carol Reed's "Oliver!" is the musical version of Dicken's Oliver Twist. It stars Mark Lester as the irrepressible street urchin, suckered into the lair of a vagabond by The Artful Dodger (Jack Wild) and forced into a life of crime by Fagin (Ron Moody). But when Oliver is salvaged from the slums by a benevolent philanthropist, Bill Sikes (Oliver Reed) decides to make a quick buck off of the trade. Shani Willis costars as Sikes' girlfriend, Nancy, who thwarts the kidnapping plot and pays for her betrayal with her life. This is a very stoic, stagy and rather dry musical that may capture the essence of Dickens in its settings characters and plot but seems totally out of touch with the effervescence of the traditional Hollywood musical. Even with such main staple songs as "Consider Yourself", "Boy ... Read More:

. Northern Pursuit
City Travel Guides > VHS > Classics
starring: Errol Flynn, Julie Bishop, Helmut Dantine, John Ridgely, Gene Lockhartdirected by: Raoul Walsh
December 07, 1994
In this lesser-known Errol Flynn action vehicle, he stars as Canadian Mountie Steve Wagner who tangles with Nazis on a mission in Canada to bomb an important canal. Since Flynn's character is the son of German parents, he works undercover with his sympathies being questioned by both sides. The set up scenes for Flynn's undercover work are weakly written and directed, but once he goes on his mission the story begins to pick up, with some good action scenes and moments of conflict. Oddly enough, Flynn isn't much of a presence in this film, going through the motions more than acting. Julie Bishop as his fiancee is hardly one of his best leading ladies, while Helmut Dantine as the Nazi leader is good in a role the actor had to play in many films throughout WWII. I'm not sure where the movie was actually ... Read More:
